The Year End Kanji

In Japan, the head priest of Kiyomizu temple thinks back on the events of the year, and writes a Kanji that best fits this year. This year it was 'LOVE', for a few reasons, but the only one I can remember is that the Princess got married this year. Last year it was 'DISASTER', due to the Niigata earthquake, and the South Asian Earthquake that triggered some of the Tsunamis.

One of my classes decided to describe their personal lives with a Kanji, and I put mine down as 'Konran', or CONFUSION, as I went through a major change of beliefs. I lost the faith I had been brought up in, and it was first difficult confronting questions with no answers, and then giving it up, and lastly trying to find new beliefs to replace the old.

What would be the Kanji that described your year? It must be one word, and if you can, use the Japanese word. The word may be made up of two or three characters.

This is a great idea Revenant! My kanji isn't good enough, but the word I would choose is FRIENDSHIP (maybe you could help me out with the most appropriate kanji )

I choose this word because I am happy that I have been able to keep in touch with a set of friends that I feared I would lose touch with. It is only thanks to e-mail and mobile phones that I have been able to keep in touch with them, and I am glad about it.

My Kanji for this year would be 「信頼」"shinrai = trust" because my trust relationship with other folk and with God has really deepened due to my wife's reoccurance of cancer.

This is a cool thread, Revenant. It made me really think about it.

There are a few words I want to use for discribing my year, like "tassei"(achieve, accomplish) or "toutatsu"(arrive, reach), but the one fits most is "funtou"(struggle).
I did so much hiking this year, and that is the main thing comes to my mind.

I felt like struggling when it was so tough to keep going.

I don't know any kanji, but one that has any kind of relationship with the word: reawakening?

I think I'd have to go with 前進, if we can use a word. If it's just one kanji, then 進.

Mine would be 幸.I can't complain, my year was good, minus the minor setbacks.

親 for closeness or intimacy with a Japanese guy that has completed my life this year and given me a reason for everything that I do.
