Hey, All!
I just registered and as I lurk around, it keeps saying something about introducing myself. So, here 'goes...
I've been studying Japanese for well over 10 years, although nowdays it's pretty much a one-hour-a-week meeting with a tutor just so I don't forget everything I used to know. I should be more fluent than I am, but I don't have much chance to use Japanese - I do use it whenever I can.
Anime started my interest in Japan and Japanese, but it's been a long time since I've seen any anime outside of Miyazaki's films (my collection is on LASERDISK! LOL). However, my interest in Japanese culture and language continues. I shall ever be fascinated by the mix of ages-old history and hi-tech culture. And how Western ideas are incorporated, modified and then re-exported as something completely fresh and new.
I do listen to quite a bit of J-Pop and J-Rock. That's one of my areas of interest that continues to grow.
I've been to Japan 3 times, but only for about a week each. I enjoyed every second of it and look forward to a chance to go back. I really like getting away from the tourist areas and just trying to have a conversation with people who maybe don't see so many foreigners around. Sure, there were a few rude people - there are in any group, but overall the trips have been a great experience.
I live in the U.S. Films and computers are my other big interests outside of Japanese.
That about does it. I'm here to expand my knowledge of Japan and perhaps pass on a little of what I know as well. Thanks for reading this and see you on the forums!
