Help Tattoo translation

Hello,

some years ago, i did me a tattoo, that means the name "giorgio", but there isn't exact translation to this name in japanese "Kanji", or other japanese letters, so i think the tattoo letters are the aproximation to the pronunciation of "giorgio".

Please, could you tell me what is the correct and exact translation and pronunciation of the letters that i show in the attached image ?

Umm, I don't think it means anything. I've never seen the first two characters and I can't see what the next two are supposed to be. Are you sure it's Japanese? If it is, it's be like having "moprfjw9mwv" written on your body.

The first and third ones are simplified Chinese characters, but I'm stumped about the 2d and 4th ones. In any case, they're all pretty messy.

It looks like it has the beginnings of spelling out Giorgio:
jie -- yue --
or
jie -- yao --

Thanks JimmySeal, i think this characters are the approximation of the pronunciation of "giorgio", but i'm not sure if there's another characters that means the same.

Well...if in chinese...It must be a name of a book..
Its chinese pronunciation is jié ōu lè jì...

杰欧乐纪

Which would be "jie ou le ji." And that's a somewhat rational approximation of "Giorgio."

The individual characters mean something like
hero Europe music/fun era

It isn't so much the characters.....it is that they look like they were done by a palsied three year old. Having kanji characters done by someone who is merely mimicking them instead of by someone who is familiar with writing them uniformly leads to markings which are a laughable mockery of kanji.

And years after the fact is a really poor time to start thinking about it.

Yeah, that's it. The 欧 could have been written better. I guess it's an okay approximation of Giorgio based on pronunciation alone - not sure why 乐 was used though.

But since Giorgio comes from George, 乔治 is standard for Giorgio (as can be seen by Giorgio Armani written in Chinese).

I agree JimmySeal, i think that is exactly 杰欧乐纪.
Then this is an aproximation of Giorgio or George pronunciation.

Supervin: You say that 乔治 is standard for Giorgio, but i don't have this two symbols in my tatoo (i think and i agree JimmySeal that my symbols or "kanjis' are 杰欧乐纪).

乔治 are other aproximation to the pronunciation of Giorgio ? (used for an instance, to write Giorgio Armani in Chinese).

I guess there are "accepted" ways of writing certain names but there are hundreds of possibilities.

乔治 would be pronounced qiao zhi, which doesn't sound much like George to me.

Dont get me wrong, I love the way Chinese and Japanese characters/writing look. That is one of the reason I want to learn it more. But the fact that you had to ask what it was that was on your body, that you yourself didnt know the meaning or could read the characters, means that maybe that tattoo was not a good idea. For all you know it could say something really stupid. For someone who is fluent in the language it might make sense to get a kanji tattoo, but even then, I wouldnt recommend it

The more you learn a language, and the less exotic the characters seem as they make their way into your daily writings, the less likely you are to get them etched into your skin.

i knew the meaning of the letters, i looked for information about this characters, and the meaning of them (prior to do it). This thread was to ask what's the exact pronunciation or at least its more exact aproximation, so now i'm sure that this characters are a good aproximation of "george" pronunciation.

I like this characters, and i like japanese culture (and martial arts, i have practised it for years) so this tatoo are ok for me.

It's nice that you like Japanese culture, but those are not Japanese characters. They are Chinese. As others have said, some of the characters are simplified Chinese, which do not exist in Japanese at all. Also, the pronunciation of the characters that approximate your name are from Mandarin, not Japanese.
