Subway/Accomodation Question

Hi,
I am going to Tokyo in April spending about 4 days there.
I'll be arriving around 5pm (so rush-hour I'm assuming). Should I take the subway or pay extra to take a taxi/bus into Tokyo. The reason why I'm wondering which to take is that I've heard that there's men that push you into the subway car and I'll have luggage with me, so it could be a problem.
Also, in the days following, is it worth it for me to get the Koei/Tokyo Metro Pass for 10,000 yen or should I just pay as I go? Do the 2 companies connect at the same stations, and what's the diffence between the 2?
My other question is, has anyone here stayed at New Koyo Hotel? I've read about it and it's pretty cheap so I was thinking over staying either there or Khaosan Tokyo.
There's a 5,000 yen difference between them and that's a hostel versus a single room.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

First off dont get a pass unless you plan on taking many long distance trips, if your staying in the Tokyo area you will be fine just paying bit by bit. and unless you have money to burn dont take a Taxi. As long as you have just a couple bags, beings that all you can take on a plane you will be fine on the train just take your time. I see people all the time coming front he Airport with Bags.. No one ever bothers them.

Funny you should mention going to Tokyo in April. I am planning on doing the same. Avoid using a taxi or bus to get into Tokyo from Narita, especially if you are coming in at rush hour. Use either the Keisei Limited Express or the Narita Express. Either one will get you into town in about an hour. Can't help you on the hotel though. It'll be interesting flying to Japan with that volcano erupting up in Alaska. I heard the airlines had to modify their routes.

There's a volcano erupting on an island off Alaska. The mountain kind of looks lika a miniature Mt. Fuji.

What the hell? Take a bus from Narita into Tokyo, once at Tokyo (station) then where are you going? There aint much at Tokyo, have you booked a room somewhere?

Theres no subway from Narita, nor is there a "rush hour" from Narita perse, its in the middle of Chiba about 90mins from anything. Not until you actually hit Tokyo/Ueno/Shinjuku will you have to worry about a bit of a crowd, and if you touch down at 5pm, you won't be in the big city till at least 7:30pm, by which time its thinned out considerably.

Hmm I would go with catching the train... the traffic can be a pain in the butt from 5pm-8pm from Narita going anywhere through and around Tokyo...
You can get your luggage couriered to your hotel/hostel, but if you are going from Narita you dont really need to worry, you will most probably get a seat on it anyway.
I've travelled into Tokyo on the train, with lots and lots of luggage, and as long as you have a seat, its not a pain. Yeah, it gets pretty cramped on the trains, but still you have a sense of your own space.

Transport and Lockers can be very very pricey, definately dont take a taxi. Also 5,000 yen is like a $50 difference.
Spending 4 days there... I dont really know where you can stay, everything is so overpriced. Internet Cafe is always good if you're on a really tight budget. hahah, dont laugh I did that for a night.

why would someone need that much luggage for only four days?
and i have stayed several times at new koyo and there is plenty of info on them in the forums already
however i doubt op will bother to look for it, so i will say that anybody that would pay for a taxi in tokyo would not like staying at new koyo
good luck! and recommending to make a list of what original poster is wanting to do there so they can do it and not have any regrets! peace

By 5,000 I meant 500 (2,500-2,000), thanks for pointing it out.

As for cheap accomodation I think the two ones I listed are the cheapest in Tokyo, has anyone had any experiences with either of them?
