Strange names

In the anime 'Fruits Basket', the main character is called Tohru
and the strange cursed family is call 'Sohma'
I haven't seen (or haven't noticed) their names in a written form throughout.

I thought that Japanese names don't have the ability to have a 'h' in the middle without being ha,hi,fu,he,ho.

In the subtitles though, they still put tohru and sohma.
When spoken though, it sounds like toru and soma.

Is this 'h' in the middle so that English viewers are more able to pronounce the names?

I asked here because it is a question directly linked to an anime, but it is about grammer in anime

It's my understanding that this is a romanization of a long o sound. Sato- can also be romanized as Satoh.

As such, the name Tohru is probably written in kana like so: とおる

By Japanese pronunciation.
HONDA TOORU
"TOORU" is generally a name of a man.
By a Japanese name, a meaning of a kanji is important.
In the case of a man,ﾂ "ﾂ ﾂ ﾂ 窶廾ﾂ ﾂ "
As for the meaning of her name, it is " pure" "transparent".
"Soma" is a famous family name in Japan,
However, there is not a family name in this kanji.
A family name to be imaginary by an author.
