Usually I probably go for days between searches (Not counting the 'find all posts by ___' type) but when you do search and find no results generally the very next thing you want to do is search again with somewhat different search terms.
I don't know anything about this particular matter, other than it bugs me too, but you know where I would like a delay? In thread-posting. It would be nice if there was a limit to how many posts you could make, say, within 5 minutes?!

Not such a good idea, IMO.
I remember the times when I had to cope with a 14.4 modem: I would open all the stuff I'd be interested in in different windows (tabs were unheard of back then) & go offline again. Then read it & write responses in a text editor, then go online again, open the necessary posting pages, copy & paste, then post. If I would have had to wait 5 minutes between every post, I wouldn't have used the forum anymore.
10 seconds I wouldn't have a problem with. Not even for the search delay, until I finished changing my query 10 secs are long over anyway.
As far as I know, the ten-second delay is supposed to take load off the forums database. Searching seems to be very demanding on the server. On another forum I frequent, they now charge for an "upgraded" account that allows you to search the forums because all the forum searches bogged down the server like mad and made the bandwith usage skyrocket.
