Rosetta Stone Software

Hey,

What are your thoughts on the effectiveness of the Rosetta stone software? I'm using it to learn Japanese and it seems fairly if not completely effective in it's methods.

got it and didn't like it much, its okay if you are already an expert reader otherwise you are probably better off with pimsleur.

I highly enjoyed it for the first few lessons...then it just go waaay to frustrating trying to figure out what they were trying to say. The pictures were often so vague there was no way I could figure out what the sentence or phrase meant even if I got the answer right. You don't need to already be a great reader, because you can do every lesson in romanji, or you can do it in all hiragana, or all kana/kanji. After a while I gave up on it because I was getting nowhere...I could correctly get the right picture with the right phrase, but I still had no idea what it meant because the picture was horrible. Ever since I have been really slow to get back into learning. It's not for everybody.

After trying Rosetta Stone i value books even more, nothing compares to good books when it comes to learning. Especially not some lousy software like RS.
