I'm working on writing an alternate history novel about the U.S. invasion of the Japanese main islands (had nuclear weapons not been invented), and as a way of sort of grounding myself in what things were really like in Japan at the time I'd love it if any of you could point me in the right direction for some pictures of Honshu Island (particularly, as I said in the title, Kujukuri Beach and the rest of the Boso Peninsula) as it looked during the latter stages of WWII.
I know that most of the cities had been firebombed at that point, so urban areas aren't as much of a concern. I'm more interested in how the rural areas of the peninsula looked (I've read that today much of it is used for growing rice crops, was it the same during WWII?) and specifically the look of the military installations along the coastline around Kujukuri Beach.
Also, any information on Japanese civilian life during the tail end of the war would be awesome. I've read that large segments of the population was on the verge of revolt as the Japanese government's ability to function continued to degrade, and obviously that starvation was rampant due to the Allied blockade. Any further insight into civilian life near the end of the war would be amazing.
