Remember when life was in black & white?

Some oldtimers like Pachipro, Uncle Frank and others will remember these shows. Folks from countries outside of the U.S. may see some as they would also broadcast (sometimes subtitled, sometimes dubbed) in their countries.

Anyway, this is a fun nostalgic romp for some of us, others may find them funny and interesting.

Kool !!!

We got our first TV in 1954. It had a 9 inch screen. There were only 3 channels, 6-8-and 13. TV came on about 7AM and signed off 11 or 12PM; nothing to watch in the middle of the night. Some people bought a colored plastic sheet (red,green,blue) to put over the screen for "color" TV. Not much channel surfing in those days, but there was ALWAYS something good to watch, even with just 3 channels, LOL. Thanks for the memories!

Thanks Armand for a trip down memory lane. Yes, TV was, or seemed at least, better in black & white. There was always a moral to every episode and husbands and wives slept in seperate beds!

I grew up in the late 50's/early 60's in New York City and we had a few more channels than Frank had. We had 3 major channels, ABC, CBS, & NBC; 3 local and 1 educational channels. And yes, there was always something good to watch.

As a kid growing up in Yokohama in the 50s and 60s, I think I remember about 70% of the shows featured.

TV broadcast started around 1952 for NHK, the public TV station, and 1953 for private TV channels. In those days, there wasn't much Japanese programming because it was still in its infancy, and a lot of American drama series were aired on prime time. My mom was an avid fan of Rawhide (Clint Eastwood as a young cowboy), The Fugitive (David Jansen), Laramie, Bonanza, Alfred Hitchock Hour, etc., etc.
My husband says he used to love the Donna Reed Show and Father Knows Best (and believed that all Americans live like these families... ).

I loved music and watched the Andy Williams Show, Sing Along with Mitch, and the Ed Sullivan Show. I love sci-fi and watched Twilight Zone, Outer Limits and later got hooked on the original Star Trek series. (Looking back, I must have been glued to the TV screen!! )

Those were the days, and we can't see a single US and European program series on the "network" channels today -- to see American or European programs, we need to subscribe to cable or satellite TV.

This will undoubtedly date me, but I remember watching Sid Caesar & Imogene Coca on Your Show of Shows. I also remember other very early programs such as Mr. Peepers, starring Wally Cox. Not all of those 1950s shows were great, though. Some of them, such as Ozzie & Harriet were extremely unrealistic. I left the web site when I saw the right-wing ranting on the "Patriot Files" page. The person who put that together probably doesn't get the irony in the song "Those Were the Days" from All in the Family.

When I was a child, I always thought that life used to be black and white, because the old tv shows were in BW. I of course realized when I got older how stupid this was, haha.

but, seriously, when I was child, (and I'm quite young ) BW movies are still popular, as far as I remember. or it was just my parents who rent old movies at local videostore.
but there is something special about those movies, and i like it a lot. recently, I watched some old Hitchcock one. i really enjoyed it

I remember tuning knobs. Those sure did wear out!

She sure did. She still sounds the same. I was tempted to ask her for a scream demonstration, but considering the advanced ages of a lot of the stars at the show, I felt it best not to. It probably would have caused a lot of coronaries!
