Recommendations for a snowy weekend away

OK here's the deal:

My wife and I live in Mikawa, Aichi-ken. We both like snow - but to look at, not to break our legs in (i.e. no skiing). Can anyone recommend somewhere in Gifu / Southern Nagano where we could go for a romantic Valentine's trip to enjoy the snow in a way we feel comfortable with. (I am thinking kashikiri rotenburo, perhaps.) Any suggestions or recommendations?

My husband is from Konan, Aichi-ken, and he knows a lot about snowy places, being an avid skier.

He says if you don't want to go far, you might like Gero or Okuhida. You can get to those places by going north on Highway 41. He says they have several onsen, but he doesn't know how much snow will be there. He thinks both places are very nice.

He says the best places are on the Sea of Japan side of Nagano, where he has friends and has spent a lot of time.

How long will your vacation be and how much time are you willing to spend travelling to your destination?

Most of the snowy places he knows in the vicinity are mostly for skiing. He says he feels that would be too chaotic for what you have in mind.

"Gero hot spring" of Gifu is one of the hot spring which is famous in Japan.
"窶佚ｷ窶ｰﾃ坂?ｰﾂｷﾂ静ｲ (NIGORIGO hot spring)" may be good if I enjoy a snow scene.
There is it at about 40 kilometers positions more northeast than "Gero hot spring".
