Hi
My friend came from Malaysia three weeks ago,His plane landed on Dauha airport (Qatar) and from Qatar to Riyadh by plane too.

He said "When i arrive to Qatar airport everything was clear,The assisstant completed procedures and handed me My passport and ID,After that i flew from Qatar to Riyadh by plane and when i arrived to Riyadh airport the assisstant told me to line up in too long queue !
All people in that queue are indians so i took a seat close to the queue, after 30 minutes i asked a Police man " is that the right queue ?"
He said "Is it the first time for you here in Saudi Arabia ?
I said : No i live in Saudi Arabia for a long time and i have my ID and Passport.

when he saw my ID & Passport he told me to go to another assisstant,so i went to him and he put my luggage into the scaner machine,I was holding a case with my Harddesk inside, when he saw it he asked me "Is there Sex movies in the Hard desk?" @@
I was shocked !! What kind of questions is that ??????

I said No,so he said to me "I am warning you, there is a shiekh here so if he find sex movies inside it we will Confiscate it"
I said "No,If you want to search just do it"
He called a sheikh and gave him the harddesk and the sheikh took me to his office and make me wait for 2 hours,After he finished searching he returned it to me and finally i skip and call a taxi to my house !!!!!!!!!!!!

............................................................

Seriously i could not belive my firend ! this never happen to me.
Do you think they have the right to check the Computers/Harddesks/CDs and DVDs for any reasons ?

No excuse for that.
If you have porn on your computer that's your business. Not theirs.

Personally dude, I woulda just told rather or not i have porn on my laptop, thats none of your damn business. 'sides not like their is international laws about having porn on my laptop.

It seems that religious figures control the law there. Still, when traveling to another country, you're subject to their laws.

You must have fit their profile for pornographers, Hezam. :)

I am pretty sure this can happen in America too, maybe not for purely just having the porn, but if there is anything illegal about it, or other things on the computer..

The confiscation of laptops in America though, I hear, is many about homeland security stuff.

You could catch like 90% of people with laptops for carrying infringing material that violates copyright. That's how the internet works, it gives us our daily software, films, music and pr0n. Broadband is infinite times more effective than a prayer. The question is, what will they do with 90% of the people with access to internet once they caught them. Plus, if they search your computer for some proper dodgy stuff and find mainstream porn on it which is legal, but which you are possessing illegally, they'll probably leave you alone because the prosecutor knows you'll just refer to the presumption of innocence and how they violated it and done.

Totally absurd and inappropriate to search for porn on someone's computer. Besides, what is he even considering "porn?" Pass by a few sites and hit an evony ad on the side and that shows up on some insane search and is going to be counted as porn?

I'm very protective of my computer since I has so much important things on it, and I back it up often. It has research files and more on it. I guess that means I won't be visiting Saudi Arabia... then again China would probably also do something as stupid as that (and possibly more) and I made it through that country.

Sorry Hezam :D You gotta make porn legal before I come visit :D

Lol,Emoni you can fool them, just put your porn thingys in your laptop not in another hard desk, they will never touch your computer if you tell them you have pictures of your family.
give me few days,i will go to the embassy and deal with them :D

By the way guys it's not only porn,In some countries the patched software is illegal like Malaysia so it's the same like here.

Is that how you do, Hezam? :D

It doesn't surprise me, as it is Saudi Arabia. The country is not known for it human right record and its general disregard for civil liberties. It's media is tightly controlled and monitored to almost chinese government levels. So, no, I am not surprised in the least.
