The Aichi Prefectural Government's matchmaking event scheduled for 7 October has seen 2,249 singles looking to tie the knot applying—some 5.6 times the 400 participants organisers sought. The government will hold the event at Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park, the location of Ghibli Park, in Nagakute, near Nagoya.

I have read about similar events organised by South Korean municipalities. They are popular but hardly ever result in participants tying the knot.

Based on my (dated) experience in Aichi, I'd expect that the plans will need to be modified slightly. There will almost certainly be more men attending than women.
