well...I don't see ANY use for rep points...but since it's there...why not use it to lighten up the whole thing...make the forum a bit more visual attractive...ne? Honestly if I had 0 points I wouldn't care less

Upon consultation with Maciamo I have enabled this feature for most of the usergroups. As you can see, I have also joined the "no rep club" and traded my radioactive balls for a simple black pearl.

Good, then everyone can choose for themselves.
One last thing - I don't know if this is possible, but I think it would be a good idea to prevent trolls with red balls from disabling their reputation so everyone can see it's a troll.

Thanks for mentioning that, Lina. I was wondering about that as well, but I also noticed that Thomas said "most of the usergroups," so maybe those won't be disabled. Not sure, though. :?

I'm getting into this kind of late, but... If we join the "no rep club" can we still give and receive feedback on our posts? :?

As I have stated earlier in this thread: the "no rep" option only hides your rep count from others. You can still give, receive as well as check your rep points.

i see yall adjusted the amount that members can give at one time as well

I dont have much need for it/them either, although I am a little confused as to how they disappeared while I was away for a few days. :?

i'll trade all my balls for just ONE radioactive ball!..

.. I wanna be as special as I feel!

I used to be pretty 'meh' on the whole subject, more wanting to see how long the rep points would go then really using them to evaluate a person. But after all the stink (Maciamo singling some out instead of just talking to all the people on the board) I'm joining the no rep club. It just seems like such a hassle having to decide when to give a rep.

Now I'm really confused. :?

there's a limited amount of times within a 24hour period you can give rep points.. after that it just says "you've used up all your rep points for today".. i've only hit that roof once..

but apparently it has been changed...

no no the number about you give for a single rep has been changed.

example: if i repped thomas one time yesterday i woulda given him 10 points, today i would only give 5. not actual numbers mind you this is an example.

I have only enabled the option to hide your rep. Nothing else has been modified...
:?

Oh yes, I modified a few options yesterday to prevent abuses. Not a big deal.

1) The daily limit of reputation each users can give is now 6 (some people just gave points too easily to anybody or to some particular members).

2) You should give rep. to at least 4 people before giving some again to the same person (so as to avoid favouritism or mutual backscratching)

3) Users with less than 20 rep. points can't give reputation (before it was 10, or the default for new members, which can be dangerous if people sign up with different accounts to vote several time for/against the same post).

4) I have raised a bit the Post Count and Reputation Factor, so that the points given by people with a lot of posts or a lot of rep. is not too disproportionate.

ah so thats it.

but this one
3) Users with less than 20 rep. points can't give reputation (before it was 10, or the default for new members, which can be dangerous if people sign up with different accounts to vote several time for/against the same post).
i dont think will effect much since i think they need some 20 posts before their rep counted either way.

Hmm. Rep Points aren't important. They don't influence me at all.

Just ask, and I'm sure they'd put them back for you if you want.

It seems that the software bluntly disregards users' consent...

However, if you would like to display your rep points, just re-enable the option in your User CP.

Oh, OK. I still have not had a chance to read all the memos on this and was under the impression a non-display was something the user had to default from. Is there any way to get out from under the rep system entirely so it can go back to being a clean box ?

Unfortunately not, Elizabeth. The current situation is already a technical compromise between 'reps' and 'non-reps'. I guess we non-reps have to live with that black pearl.

Now that I've joined the No Rep Club I can't see the comments people have made about my posts in my User CP. Is there any way to change that? :?

NO!
you wanted to be hip, now you're hip!
you can have one or the other, not both!
you have made your choice.
*sheesh*

I don't know, Brooker. Here is what Thomas said earlier on the matter:

Thomas said:

Although, perhaps that's only rep points and not comments. :?

I'm sure there must be a way you can view the rep comments. Perhaps you could re-enable the option in your User UP in order to view them temporarily--at least, until Thomas or Maciamo can explain how to do it with the system disabled. Just a thought ... :?
