Help Other uses for よう

Hi there everyone

The following passage features a use of 『よう』 that I don't understand. I understand all the words in the passage, but for some reason, I have no idea what it means. Can anyone help me?

Here is the passage. It is someone speaking to someone.

もしジョバンニと言う男がいたら、彼女に連絡するように言ってくれ、一緒に飼い猫もいなんくなったようだから、その猫といると思うんたがね。

How are they using よう in this sense? For that matter, can anyone translate the sentence to me?

Well, the もしジョバンニと言う男がいたら、彼女に連絡するように言ってくれ part means something like:

If [you see?] a man named Giovanni, please tell him to contact her

Less sure about the second half.

The second half I think should be いなくなった and reads "Because they (Giovanni ?) and the pet cat seem to both be gone, I thought he was with the cat.

How are they using よう in this sense?

This よう is quite standard when asking for someone to do something. I guess the literal way to look at it would be something like, "as to".

◯◯するように××

the following combinations could work
電話、伝えて (tell him/her to call)
合格、がんばって (try hard, as to pass)

Sometimes you can just say something like, 落ちないように or 風邪をひかないように. The rest of the sentences are inferred.

Just memorize it, as it's very handy.
忘れないように、よく勉強して。
