i've been doing a bit of research into Japanese history and it keeps coming up with relating Oda Nobunaga as an evil warlord, whats the big deal with this?

Oda Nobunaga was one of the most ruthless warlords in Japan towards the end of the Sengoku Jidai era, a time noted for its violence. He started off as the lord of a small fief near modern day Nagoya, but through clever strategem and military skill he was able to expand his power to the point that he became the most powerful warlord in Japan. In 1573 he deposed the last of the Ashikaga Shoguns.

His reputation as a bloodthirsty tyrant comes mostly from one single act (though he commited many), which was his extremely controversial decision to raze Hiei Zan, a temple complex north of Kyoto. Founded in the early 9th century by the priest Saicho, Hiei zan had originally been founded as a temple designed to protect the capital from evil spirits. But throughout the centuries it had become a major power in itself, controlling a massive army of warrior-monks who would often descend on the capital to make demands of the emporer. Because of their holy status no one had ever been able to take effective action against the monks of Hiei zan until Nobunaga came along and simply ordered his men to burn every building on the mountain (there were over 2,000) and slaughter every single monk they found (something like 10,000 were killed). For this, he is remembered as a real viscious dude.

Wow.. And I heard about him in InuYasha.. Kagome was like excited about him when she thought this other guy was him.. shouldn't she have been scared ? lol.. I mean I know he was famous but he is a psycho vicious killer... @_@

People, dont compare games/anime to history. The names may come up to symbolise something (like being evil) but I would take what they say as a grain of salt.

He was also one of Japan's first Christians and a great moderniser. He was a bit like the Napoleon of Japan, for instance he saw the true potential of firearms, and included great loads of mainly Portugese (as I understand it) arquesbusses (the forerunner of muskets) in his armies. He also built the world's first iron-clad warships, long before anything alike came along in Europe.
Though to be fair, Japanese warships, iron-clad or not, weren't much compared to own, being ponderously slow and pitifully undergunned, but that's all behond the point. It's the idea that counted.

Personally, I think he was pretty cool. Where the whole 'evil warlord' thing came from I don't know.

he'll get a mixed feeling of disgust and respect from me.. just like most big leaders... they have a habit of walking over corpses to get where they are..

hitman, i thought you were like a giant samurai fan?.. this is basically the guy that ended that era. by introducing firearms anyone could fight...

He is so evil that even CAPCOM uses him as a wicked villain in one of their video game series (Onimusha).

History is just that, history.

As for history.

History are written by historians, which differs according to each historian and might not necessary be the truth or even has the whole truth.

It should be noted that many famous historical figures while are considered by 'historians' as leaders that do things on their, these figures might not be acting on their own, be instead might have been just mere puppets.



As for Kagome's reactions in InuYasha.

Er... Why you was so suprised on toward Kagome's reactions? It was a normal reaction, at least for her.

Anyway. Someone once said that he was kinda like Napoleon, so it would be like meeting Napoleon, or Rosevelt and so on.

Besides, InuYasha is quite capable of being a psycho vicious killer. So it's not like Kagome isn't already capable of handling a psycho vicious killer.
