Travel Noboribetsu Onsen

I will spend a few days in Noboribetsu and surrounds in June. Which is worth spending more time in: lake Shikoktsu or Lake Toya? Or are they very similar? I would appreciate knowing other's travel experiences of this region

Both have nice views from the edge of the water.

Shikotsu has one onsen (Marukoma, pretty expensive) with a modest rotemburo, and another one across the lake that has an indoor pool on the second floor overlooking the lake. Nice views from each, but indoors vs. outdoors.

Toya has tall buildings with onsen in them. Plus, lava flowed into the town during the Mt. Usu eruption of 2000 and is something you can see up close. And, you can hike around/through part of Usu now. And, about 10 minutes away by car is a smoldering volcano Showa Shinzan that rose during WWII in just one year.

Date-shi is to the south of Lake Toya.
