Tourism New Yamanote station named "Takanawa Gateway"

The first "new station" on the Yamanote loop since Nishi-Nippori Station opened in 1971 will be called "Takanawa Gateway" (高輪ゲートウェイ駅). The name was chosen based on public submissions; though"Takanawa" placed first, JR East decided to name the new station "Takanawa Gateway" (ranked 130th). The station will also be accessible by the Toei Asakusa Line and the Keikyu Line via the nearby Sengakuji Station (source).

The development of the new town will follow, due for completion in 2024. Then a further major step in its growth is the planned opening of the Linear Chuo Shinkansen in 2027. Takanawa Gateway - Tokyo's New Railway Station - Japan All Over

Any ideas why the station is getting the gairaigo treatment with the tacky "gateway" added onto it? What's the point of having a poll if you're going to just pick the name you wanted that's not even in the top 100(!) results?

According to this Japan Today article, when it started it had the tentative name of "Global Gateway Shinagawa," so I guess some execs or government officials really liked the sound of that and tried to hold onto it? Meanwhile I'm seeing comments like "ダサくない？" on social media when discussing the new station name.

There is Sengakuji beside the new station.
It is a very famous temple in Japan.

Sengakuji-eki would be nice. The temple is famous for its graveyard where the "47 Ronin" (also known as Akoroshi, the "masterless samurai from Ako") are buried.

Takanawa has a Takanawa Royal House, and the Emperor who will be abdicated next year will temporarily live for one and a half years.

Tokyo’s Takanawa Gateway Station opens to public as Shinagawa development marks milestone

Takanawa Gateway Station opened its doors to the public on Saturday, becoming the latest addition to Tokyo’s Yamanote and Keihin Tohoku lines and marking a major milestone in a decadeslong project to transform a large part of the Shinagawa district into a global transportation and business hub.
