New Life In Japan

Ok sooo I want to live (permanently) in Japan. I wanted to take the money I have saved (not a whole lot) and try to get started. Hopefully with a months stay at a hostel or hotel while I search for a job. Maybe get a Job at the hostel or hotel would be even better!! There isn't anything in specific I want to do in Japan. Just to be there. I lived there the first 10 yrs of my life and I miss being there so much. So how do you think I should get started there? Please lend me your advice :?

Umm.. if you wanna get a realistic answer you are going to have to tell us more about yourself.. how old are you? what kind of education and qualifications do you have? etc.. I also recommend you do a search of the site, because your type of question has been addressed time and time again on this forum.

I'd recommend remedying that first, then educate yourself on the requirements for living in Japan. You might also find that the Japan you grew up in isn't the same as the one you wish so desperately to move back to. We cast a wary eye over anyone who wants to move permanently to Japan by any means necessary.

Get an education or your going to end up as a janitor at best for the next 60 years of your miserably life.

I probably shouldn't have been so vague but I just finished my Associates in Medical Laboratory. I currently work in a hospital testing blood samples etc. I'm also 21. I know that the Japan i remember has probably changed by now but I cant help but to feel a bit homesick. There no need to be wary My Intentions are pure. To just enjoy my life in the place I long for.

An associates degree is not enough to get a work visa here. That's the main priority you need to set. If you don't even know what sort of job you want, yet you dream (and I write that word with the heaviest of sarcasm) of living here, think again. It's hard enough to live in your own country with no career goals, but in a foreign land, you can't do that.

You're going to need an education of at least a bachelor's degree, plus a hefty dose of Japanese language skills (reading/writing/speaking). Even work in a hostel will require something like those 2 things, if for no other reason than the visa.

Do it right the first time.

If you lived there as a child, although presumably not your country of citizenship, there should be a ton more useful contact points or paths of (re)entry back in other than strangers over the internet ??

Travel

Since you're still very young, I recommend travelling to other countries and other parts of your own country before committing yourself to such a drastic move. In the last analysis, what you do may be more important than where you do it. And the U.S. gives you more options.

However, if your mind is set, I wish you the best - you'll just have to try awful hard. And you should remember that the Japanese are sticklers for details. So for example, a posting in this forum's travel section should have something to do with travel. To help you out, I'm posting a link on Travelling. (Just look for references to Japan)

Last night I ate Kobe beef for dinner. In Kobe. I could do this – eat the most gratuitously flash meal of my life, that is – because Kobe was just 13 minutes away by bullet train. It takes longer than that to walk to my local pizzeria and wait for a Quattro Stagione.

So, I did it. Why not? It had been the same with Osaka – this time a paltry 14 minutes from Kyoto, or as long as it takes to grind past three bus stops in central London.

I never dreamed I could see off-the-beaten-track cities such as Kobe and Osaka on a week's trip to Japan, but here I am, still picking the meat out of my teeth.
