Necropost Warning

Considering how high-tech this forum is (I'm not being sarcastic, this forum is one of the most up-to-date I've ever seen), I think it would be in order to display a necropost warning once a thread hasn't been replied to in 3 months. The date tag is easy to read, but small; Some users might check it always out of practice, but I don't believe JREF users in general would inherently check before replying.

Mild and sincere apologies if this feature is already implemented to some effect.

Thanks for your suggestion!

Excellent idea, and in fact we had this implemented in our vBulletin installation. I'll see if there's a comparable add-on for XF.

This has now been implemented. Currently, the cut-off date is set to 7 years. Users attempting to post to threads older than that will receive the following message:



Members will still be able to post, but will have to tick the checkbox.

Very easy. Seven years was randomly chosen, as we have several older threads that are still active. What age cut-off do you suggest?

This is a very welcome development and much appreciated. Fewer man-hours went into building the Great Wall of China than have gone into typing our collective "please don't necropost" posts.

I would go with one year.

The vast majority of the necros I've noticed are responses to questions about life in Japan, how to get something done, how to say a particular thing, etc. I'd venture to say that if someone hasn't figured out how to go about asking to use a restroom in a year, they've solved the problem another way
