"name" + "-sa" ??

I know that usually you add -さん、-ちゃん、-さま、or whatever, to another ones name... I also know when and why and so on...

But lately I heard someone adding ‐さ all the time to a name (it was in a certain TV series)...

I've never heard that before...

could you explain it to me?

I have zero Kanji skills, but could they have added -san? If knowledge server its a name suffix to show a basic level of respect for someone.

sorry , for me I'm like you , I just know those さん、-ちゃん , and I never heard about sa before
but maybe some Japanese members will answer you exactly ...

Hmm... I'm also stumped on that, maybe its a dialect thing or just the way that person speaks even though he/she actually means "san", could be a few things.

さん、さま、ちゃん、くん、etc put after a name are called "honorifics" but there does not exist one which is pronounced さ.
My guess is it is さん either mispronounced or misheard.

Sounds to me like the person was pronouncing the ん too subtly for you to notice.

yeah, that was my guess as well.... because i know that such a honorific doesn`t exist.
Thanks anyway...

But I was just confused because the certain series was "dragonball Z". The character Chichi called Goku "Goku-sa", and they also said "-sa" in the english subtitles.
Maybe it`s just misheard.... both by me and the subtitle makers.
The character probably pronounces the "n" too softly.

Ah, I see. That's a Tohoku dialect-ish honorific, the equivalent of さん in standard Japanese. Actually, Chichi (and Gyuumaou) used Tohoku dialect(-ish) besides さ.

If it's clipped, muddy or mumbly sounding, when the speaker is too cold to open their mouth fully....think ZUZUBEN (Tohoku-ben) !!!
