My story

Hi dude and dudette,
I am originally from Italy, but I haven't lived in there for about 30 years, since then I travelled all over, and now I am settled in the UK and I am also a British citizen.
I lived in Japan for many years, so I know a bit about Japan the good and the bad, like any other country.

I am married to a Japanese national and have a kid.
I have been thinking to settle in Japan, I could live at her parents house, but too many obstacles to overcome, which I will be happy to elaborate to someone who wants to help me by IM, like skype or messenger. this is my skype login name just.....me ( 5 dots in the between) or thatsme(at)1010yahoo.co.uk, thatsme1010(at)googlemail.com, thatsme1010(at)hotmail.co.uk.

So I have been thinking for months what to do.
I am basicaly tired to live here, like many other people have their own reason of living somewhere else.

I know that it is almost anfeasable to find a job but ALMOST doesn't mean impossible.

I am close to 50, so like other country ageism exist, I am not that naive!!

I would like to ask you advice or offering suggestions, you are more than welcome to play around, or make fun of me, I might be able to have a laugh.

I was thinking to go to Japan by my self and start doing something, like for example teaching Italian, or English conversation or even arubaito.

I do speak fluently Japanese and write and read Hiragana and Katakana unfortunately, not Kanji.

If anyone can help me or want to ask me more questions, you are more than welcome.

Get a spouse visa, and you can do almost any sort of job an employer thinks you are qualified for. You are not necessarily limited to teaching a language. Italian is not in high demand here. You might eke out a few private lessons. See what the old NOVA (now managed by G.com) has; they used to deal with more than just English. Same with Berlitz.

Your lack of knowing kanji might be a barrier to non-teaching jobs; depends on the type of job. What exactly do you feel you are qualified to do?

What is your wife's feeling about all this? Keep her part of the negotiations.

As for getting the visa that is not the problem.
Wife? that is another story, you have your own and I have mine.
I am open to any jobs really, obviously ANY JOBS does mean a lot of things, but let's not go there.

As for working in Japan as you rightly mentioned, teaching Italian won't be the main thing, it could still be, you never know, but that is not what I am thinking right now.

While I am asking this, I can actually reply to my self to the questions I have asked about, but it is interesting to see from other Human prospective.

Apply, yes. Get the job? Depends on your level of Japanese (spoken as well as reading/writing).

In some, yes. Not all. Depends on which ones don't require much local language. If the bar has a menu, you may have to know how to read it.
