The people with your deadline information would be your nearest Japanese embassy. Go to their website and search for the Monbukagakusho scholarship. They should have all the information you need.
 
hey there,

I'm getting more and more nervous. Now I know that there are 15 people invited for the test & interview and that they will grant 3 scholarships, meaning my chance to get one is one out of five.

Well that may sound not too bad, but I just don't know how to prepare....
 
hiya, just want to say hi here.
i'm applying from the London japanese embassy, and the deadline has passed. Was forced to do this scholarship very last moment coz I have things in reverse. i got admission to uni as research student (accepted by a lecturer) but he wanted me to apply.
I now got 2 days before I can re-submit (basically i missed all photocopies) so getting things done

Anyone from UK for this yr?

Thanks. I went to the embassy and that helped a lot. but, they said they can't give me questions of previous years or any specific guidelines about writing the research proposal. could you please give me any link to any blog or something where any current or former scholarship holder has given suggestions or tips on these things?

Got shortlisted for interview and test.

Now I have to fight for scholarship with 158 shortlisted candidates (for 38 scholarships)
 
shocked.... my attemtp in past paper

ok just did the 2010 past paper to see how good or bad I score

I scored 8 out of 20 in the japanese test. I was aiming to do JLPT Level 2 and felt I'm pathetic scoring this low.

I scored 96% in the English paper...

if i score this low in the japanese test, does it matters? I only declare to have JLPT Level 3 pass in my application. I'm applying as a research student to carry research in popular music and going to take the 6 mths course in Japanese (Oct entry)

Im glad i found someone who also plans to take fisheries science. Just like you, im preparing for the exam which will be on june 21 (monday). Since, yours was done already, is it ok if i ask about your english exam? How was it? Is it still the same as last year? Can you share to us, especially to me, the type of exam u took last may 9? Im worried about it and im looking for someone who could give advise (those who already taken the test) about the preparation to make before taking the test. But most importantly, to know the type of exam for this year's scholarship. Pls. give some insights. thank you so much.

Dude you can apply for the university recommendation at the beginning of next year! You already passed the paper work stage so I don't see how they can turn you down in Feb when you already have a professor vouching for you now. Keep in touch with that professor! Sorry about your interview experience.
 
Hi i m from Malaysia~ this is my first post to say hi to every MEXT applicants
i was lucky enough to be shortlisted for interview, now i am so scared!
will they ask me to speak in japanese during the interview?
on the other hand i read from the guideline that even i pass the interview doesnt mean that I successfully get the scholarship..
haiz, so many uncertainties ahead.. hopefully all of us will eventually get it through! Fighting!!!
 

As far as I know, the interview will be held in English. I don't think You're required to speak Japanese then, because many students didn't learn Japanese until they arrived in Japan. And Yes, If You got recommended by Your country, Your application will be sent to MEXT to pass the final selections. It's not 100% sure, but the chances are big! (That's what I've been told).
I read that since 2008 the MEXT government aims to the "300000 International Students Plan" by 2020. So the rate of acceptance has increased more. Hope You'll get the scholarship! (I'm still on the written exams )

i just received an email from Japan professor, he is willing to take me as his master student!
hopefully i can successfully get the scholarship and not make him disappointed ~
 
HELP!

I've just applied for MEXT postgrad 2011. Interviews at the London Embassy take place in 2 weeks and I'm getting REALLY worried!

I have NO knowledge of Japanese (The website said this wasn't necessary!)

I don't have a DETAILED research proposal (Again, the website didn't say this was!)

Seeing the many posts of people here has worried me about what questions I might be asked, and not being able to sit the Japanese test. Is it a problem that I will be completely unable to sit the test?

And what of my research ideas? I know my specific field but have no further details to work on. Is there any point in furthering my application, or should I wait a few more years until I have a better plan? Honest opinions, please.

I just sent in some additional doc, they asked me to sent in more doc so I'll see. have you got your dates for interview yet? wasn't sure if we're like other countries where the written test happens first then interview, or both the same day.

I'm anxious to learn if I get in with document supplied

Well, Japanese ability is no guarantee one way or the other of receiving the scholarship. I met several MEXT scholars here at Keio University who have very basic to no Japanese ability (they hadn't studied it before getting here), and others who were already fluent. I think it might depend upon whether you're planning to head to a school with an English program or if your proposal will involve heavy amounts of Japanese (like interviews).

Out of curiosity, what was your research idea? If you don't have an actual proposal of some sort (as in a project you want to complete), you will be disadvantaged, unfortunately. They want to know what you'll be doing with the money they give you. However, if the UK is like the US in that you can sit for the exams and interview basically just by applying, it won't cost you anything to sit through the experience and go through the interview so that you'll have a better idea of what to expect when you're better prepared.

Is it really? I hope so. I'm really nervous that I won't even get to sit the exams. Well, I bet if anyone isn't allowed to it'd be me.

Yeah, I didn't hear of any US applicants getting turned away. As far as I know, you just show up for the exam and interview. Other countries seem to be a lot more discriminating. >_> Lucky for us though, huh? ^_^;;;

the english exam is just like last year, but with additional 10-item spot-the-mistake part. I don't even know if i passed that exam. I am sure i have several mistakes. o well, goodluck to me. the results will be out next week.
 

Hey there~ I have applied last week (just on time ). I need to start contacting the staffs though. I am hoping to get in as a Master student to do global health.

Anyone from UK heard anything yet? I am nervous as well...

I got an email from the embassy last fri to say there's a few missing doc. stupid me. I totally forgot the photocopies, and need to send in by yesterday. I managed to gather everything so it's all in. checked royal mail and tracking says it arrive there bang on time.

I'm totally nervous. The additional information doc they have on the site say interviews/test is conducted end of June to Early July, that's only 2-3 weeks away. argghhhhh

There's someone at Geidai (Tokyo University of the Arts) has accepted me, he's the one to ask me to apply for MEXT , but now based on my research (in popular music) I'm afraid the embassy wants a higher Japanese standard from myself to grant me anything...

I am applying as a research student studying musicology , I hope they love a musician

good luck for everyone! I'm from Germany, hopefully I'll be going to Japan next April.

It seems that we'll have to take the Japanese test soon, so, just one question to all who have already taken it: Was the test like last year's? Or the years before? Just to know how to prepare and on what to focus.

This one says you MUST have a time-table in your research project or you'll flop the screening, which I don't find credible at all! The people I know didn't have any time-tables when they passed. Even more, for humanitarian and art-related fields you can hardly have a time-table.
 

Yeah, I thought that was odd, too. I didn't have a timetable in mine, nor did my MEXT friends, but we got the scholarship...
