I'm doing an essay for school and I am having a hard time finding specific military advancements that brought japan during the meiji era to become a world power status. Like what guns/ships. did they have tanks or planes etc.
The same problem applies to the specifics of the change in economy and government. Anyone know any facts that can answer some of these?

This link might help a little. If I remember correctly it talks about the Choshu smuggling in guns just prior to the restoration, which would have been the first guns in Japan, en masse.

Politically - you can write about the similarities between Meiji Japan and Wilhelmian Germany. How both were supposed constitutional states with a constitution but which had a strong nationalistic feeling about the monarchy.
