Hello! I am an anthropology student at a university and need some help. Our assignment is to pick a country or tribe and study its marriage and family system. As I am fascinated with Japan I picked Japan. I tried to conduct some internet research but all the info was on the wedding ceremonies themselves. I thought that it would be outstanding to get some first hand account from someone who was belonged to a japenese marriage or family. Any such accounts would be greatly appreciated. If you would be open to chatting on AOL or MSN messengers that would be great too. Lastly, if you know of any good internet resources that you could point me towards that is really good too.

Some of the particular aspects of marriage and family that I would like info are but not limited to:

-kinship
-divorce
-role of women
-mate-selection
-work and family
-child rearing
-household division of labor
-sex before marriage
-aging and the family
-gender-role socialization

Thank You in advance!!!

I could drone on and on about this..But I think if you want first hand accounts and personal opinions you should go to Gaijinpot Japanese Relationship Forums

Here are alot some posts which, more or less, relate to your topic: (Some topics may contain material which can be viewed as offensive)
Marriage (Sex Life)
The "Truth" about marriage with a Japanese woman
Japanese Religion and Relationships

There are alot of crappy and uninformative posts, but just keep looking until you find one with marriage or wife in the title.

A small note though: This only covers the viewpoint of foreigner's relationships with native Japanese people. Relationships between a Japanese man and a Japanese woman might or might not differ. Also, anything you hear from posters on Gaijinpot should be taken with a pinch of salt.
