hello, I look forward to learning some Japanese this summer. I speak Mandarin. Has anyone ever used Rosetta Stone? Is it really good? I wanted to buy it, but it's so expensive.. I can't afford going to a language school to learn or hiring a tutor, but perhaps when I get some money. Is there a place to post questions about Japanese here? I only know hiragana and katakana. Kanji well, is ok, but sometimes i don't know what reading to use. And I can't really make sentences. Anyways, hi!

Rosetta Stone is good once you've mastered the basic sentence structure and simple Kanji. Buy the book "Genki I" and then once you've finished, at least Lesson 6, you can start Rosetta Stone. I also started my Japanese by using RS, and they assume too much, but after Genki it becomes decent. The Learning Japanese board is great for questions, the people are nice and respond as quickly as they can! As for the readings, I myself have a thread on the subject, it is very difficult.

PS; Hello!

Hi! Welcome to jref.com!

Everything putrefaction said is totally right.
I just want to reinforce one point, Rosetta Stone is not worth the money you will spend on it, i would recommend getting what putrefaction said ("Genki 1") or some other textbook. Rosetta Stone will just confuse you if you dont know grammar.
