Lap dancing

An article in our local paper got me thinking. A local businessman has put in a licence application to open a lap dancing club next door to a church in our city centre.

The council has deferred its decision until it has carried out a site visit. Councillors are concerned about the safety of dancers in the private booths. I found it interesting to note that they don't seem concerned about the location.

What do you think about this story and about lap dancing in general?

I can't help wondering whether there is something dodgy about the owner's not putting CCTV cameras in the private booths. It makes me wonder whether he has any intention of enforcing the rule about customers staying 12 inches away from dancers. If everything going on in there is legal, why not install cameras?

In general, I can't really see the point in lap dancing. I don't know if there are male lap dancers, but I certainly wouldn't want a naked man dancing inches away from my face. ☝

Not putting CCTV cameras in private booths is quite dodgy and very dangerous.

It seems every culture has some form of "dancing women for men's pleasure", but they are not normally naked. That being said I personally don't care for it, it's always been a very strange concept to me, your not actually doing anything, just watching some girls with proberly very bland expressions swinging themselves around, I don't see the enjoyment unless your a huge pervert. It just seems very tasteless and a huge waste of money, but for many guys it's quite a normal thing to go see, so I'm not shocked when guys talk about being there.

Well there are the people who don't really like being recorded by CCTV. I mean, in many countries the contrary, not putting cameras in the booths, would be the norm.

I agree with what Jericho said. I can hardly imagine anyone enjoying the whole thing. In my view, its some sort of a manliness trial or what. Like when 13-14 year old kids drink themselves to torpor, but exclusively for males.

Though, if the owner doesn't observe the rule, I guess then there could be some fascinating stuff. Guess then its a z grade brothel with booths lol.

Sometimes, as a man, you just wanna see some nudity.
Keep in mind most of these places allow a bit of touching too so it's not just looking. Men know this or suspect this so that's part of the reason they go.

I used to go here and there when I was younger, 18-22 or so, usually as a spontaneous thing with the guys when we had nothing better to do. "Yeah let's hit the rippers!" (slang for a strip joint). But now it's a bit dated. Plus I prefer east-Asian women and they were far and few between so there was little incentive to go. Most sex-trade workers are from eastern Europe or the next town over or something.

I'm okay with strip clubs and all, but I don't think they should be near churches, parks, or schools. As for the camras, I find it shocking that the owner isn't looking out for the girls safety.

I won't lie the few times my friends and I got drunk and went to the club I had fun (no not that fun).

Hey if regulated strip clubs are morally corrupt, then so is every profit-making business out there like shopping malls and churches.

As long as strip clubs don't break any laws, they're just as legitimate as any other business.

Your being way too black and white about this. Tabacco companies are also legitimate but over 5 million people die from smoking a year (and the figures continue to rise). Being a legitimate business has nothing to do with the fact that strip clubs are imo sleazy and unnecessary. And btw how the hell can you compare a strip club with a shopping mall or even a church for that matter?

Those deaths were self-inflicted. People had the choice to

1) Smoke
2) Not smoke

They knew the risks when smoking, so if they die, it is entirely their own responsibility.

A strip club is a business. Buyers pay for a product and the sellers supply the product.

A shopping mall is a collective of groups of sellers (supermarkets, CD shops, computer stores) who sell to buyers.

A church is a business that sells fake happiness and fake answers to people who choose to buy it. Or to be more precise, these transactions are called donations and the church secretly owns profit-making businesses which fund their supposed charities.

The church is the worst of the bunch though: they pay no tax.

I think you misunderstood my meaning, you said "if regulated strip clubs are morally corrupt, then so is every profit-making business out there" and that is a very black and white statement, your basically saying that any "profit-making business" are not morally corrupt and I questioned that using smoking companies as an example.

Again maybe you misunderstood, 'business' aside I don't see how you can put a strip club on the same moral grounds as a shopping mall.
The Church thing is your opinion and some Christians here might find that offensive.

I have never seriously said that strip clubs were morally corrupt. I couldn't care less. I, personally, would give the greater public access to them, meaning I'd let kids over 13 wander in and have a nice time.

I couldn't care about strip clubs, but hey, why shouldn't people be allowed to feed their urges? What is the problem with it? Nowadays kids have access to porn through the internet anyway, and why shouldn't they?

Well I was merely saying that the strip club/adult industry and the smoking industry and the video game industry and the car industry etc..... are all one and the same. They all have one purpose: To bring buyers and sellers to make profit.
My problem is when people single out strip clubs as being "morally corrupt" simply because it involves one of our primal urges as well as sex and nudity.
I'd be more accepting of the "morally corrupt" justification if these puritans were just as loud about say, the military/war industry and the diamond industry, since I can see actual victims being hurt and taken advantage of.

Sure there are many factors in our lives but when it comes down to it, it is ultimately up to a person to make the final choice.
In a world filled with frivolous lawsuits, rampaging teenagers and uncaring parents, I think it's about time someone promoted personal responsibility. The government certainly won't, they just want to look like they're doing something.

Well, that is your opinion and you have the right to hold that opinion. And that is all it is, an opinion. The many people who pay money to enter these clubs certainly disagree though that it is "pointless" though.
As long as the buyers are happy to pay money to watch, the employees (the women) are happy to strip for income, the businesses involved obey the law, and the industry regulated by government to ensure no exploitation, then your and everyone else's personal view are irrelevant.

The Church thing is your opinion and some Christians here might find that offensive.

I think cameras should be placed for safety and that if everthing went fine the tape should be destroyed by request. And i think lapdanicng is useless, the location btw is quite ironic.
