It shows again how big Lady Gaga is in Japan!

Lady Gaga will appear via video during NHK's annual music extravaganza on New Year's Eve, the public broadcaster said.
The U.S. pop diva will appear on "Kohaku Uta Gassen" to air encouraging messages in the wake of the March 11 disasters. She will be one of many celebrities, including Hong Kong actor Jackie Chan and Wolfsburg midfielder Makoto Hasebe, captain of the Japanese national soccer team, to appear on the program.

I'm not surprised she's huge in Japan. What with the love for bizarre fashion in the Harajuku scene, I'm surprised she doesn't own a house in Tokyo filled with her shopping!

Sort of on topic... but slightly off topic... How do Japanese channels usually handle non-Japanese speakers being on TV like that? I would assume they would have a translator and subtitles, but what happens if it is a live show?

There will be a translator sitting behind her that just translates everything directly.

Thanks. I have always wondered how they handled that kind of thing. I've never really watched any interviews of non-Japanese speakers on Japanese TV. I've usually just watched Japanese actors and people like that (subtitled, of course).
