Well, I'm sure everyone's heard about Katie Couric becoming the first woman to fly solo as an anchor on the evening news after she signed on with CBS the other day. While that's certainly groundbreaking, personally, I would have something of a problem watching a sweet faced blonde named "Katie" doing the news without chuckling. I suspect she'll have to change her name to either "Kate" or "Katherine", otherwise no one's gonna take her seriously when she reports on war, politics, inflation, elections and all that other juicy stuff anchors yak about.

:p

P.S.
But then again, I won't watch her anyway because the evening news comes on during the second half of Sportscenter, and I NEVER miss Sportscenter, so I'm being contradictory.

I'm not a regular network news junkie either. On the other hand, there's no reason to expect it won't be a very natural transition back to her roots as an award winning anchor, reporter, editor and producer for local as well as national stations assumed under the name Katherine all before this current whatever everyone has a problem with typically blond (?) role period of notoriety.

Oh she'll be taken seriously...or they wouldn't have thrown $15 million at her to do the job! Can you imagine someone gets paid that much to read the news from a monitor?

Never seen her. Never expect to.

Yeah! Tell me about it! Makes me realize that I missed my calling! Thinking about Katie as an news anchor reminds me of a line from that old Don Henley song, "Dirty Laundry":

We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who comes on at five
She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye
It's interesting when people die-
Give us dirty laundry

How appropriate! :D
