Kanonji: Kagawa: Shikoku?

Next August I'm going to Japan to be an exchange student, and I just found out I'm going to Kanonji, which is in Kagawa. Has anyone been there?? Any comments about the area? Also maybe even Kanonji Daiichi Senior High School?

I'm not entirely sure, but if you are anywhere near Shikoku, you should definitely walk or visit at least some of the temples...

And eat some sanuki udon.

I've been to Kagawa! What kind of information are you looking for?

Kagawa was important in the Gempei Wars, so there is a lot of history regarding that in Kagawa.

There is a lot of nature, and I forget the names, but there are some famous gourges there and tons of mountains.

And Shikokoku is famous for its many temples. I would start out with Konpira-san.

There's a ton more to be said about this part of the country, and I'll try to hunt down some pictures I have of the area later tonight.

I live in Takamatsu, a capital city of Kagawa, about 50km east from Kanonji.
Kagawa is the smallest prefecture, but we have many historical heritage here.
During Tokugawa (Edo) period, the Lord of Takamatsu was the Shogun's relative and very powerful. They built a wonderful garden and used as a villa. Now it's an another world in the center of the city. Though Takamatsu castle's main tower has been lost, Marugame (located between Takamatsu and Kanonji) castle was rebuilt and you can enjoy great view from its main tower.
Kanonji's special one is 3D picture of Big coin drawn on sand. Incredibly its diameter is more than 100m and It has been kept there since 1633. You have to climb the hills nearby to see the whole shape of it.
Kan-ichi (Kanonji Daiichi Senior High School) is known good school there.

So - this popped up when I was searching for Shikoku on Google. I am on the board of the Kanonji- Appleton (WI) Sister City Group. I hope that your hosts take you to see lots of places on Shikoku. Konpira-san is a neat place as is the Kabuki theater close by. Shikoku has all that Japan is known for but in a more manageable bite. It is now Christmas season. Are you staying all year? Say hi to the High School English Dept. there as I know some of the teachers. Missy B
