Tourism JR Kyushu to launch deluxe sleeper train

Last week, JR Kyushu relaunched its renovated "Seven Stars in Kyushu" deluxe sleeper train, presenting it to the media at Hakata Station. The tickets are priced up to 1.7 million JPY (about 11,400 USD).

JR Kyushu reduced the number of cabins from 14 to 10, and newly installed a tea room and a salon where passengers can interact. Aiming to offer more attentive and higher quality services than before, the company has raised ticket prices by 50% to 60%, with the most expensive one for a four-day trip now costing 1.7 million yen. The luxurious train departs from Hakata Station, travels around southwest Japan's Kyushu region, and arrives back at the same station. Of seven train cars excluding the locomotive, the second and third carriages have been renovated. Industrial designer Eiji Mitooka, who previously designed JR Kyushu's shinkansen bullet trains, worked on the renovation. The tatami-mat tea room and salon with benches facing each other were installed in the second train car, while the third carriage houses a bar lounge. The wine-red exterior and the interior atmosphere, like that of a hotel in the Meiji era (1868-1912), using a large amount of wood, have been retained.

Still, it looks like quite a ride. I just cannot imagine having that much money to spend on it though. Even with the exchange rate the two people in Deluxe Suite A would be over $12,000.00 USD.

Thanks. I looked on the site briefly but didn't find the prices. It's a bit pricier than the Sunset Seto. Just a tad.
