Hey Everyone!

I have started a wiki for people living and teaching in Japan. It's been a few month in the preparation (and could probably do with a bit more tweaking) but it is now online.

And it needs your help!!

Like other wiki's, it is built on the idea of sharing information, with contributions from many, to help everyone. And right now it needs your contribution in the form of an article.

As motivation, I have put up ツ??0,000 in prizes (5 prizes of ツ??,000).
Visit AltWiki.net and write an article to enter the draw to win ツ??,000.

Each article is a chance to win ツ??,000. ie. 2 articles = 2 chances. Competition open for the first 100 submissions (see competition page conditions for details).

ALT Wiki is a great place to share:
  • Lesson plans/ideas/activities
  • Travel tips/experience
  • Reviews of companies you have worked for (teaching English)
  • Daily life tips for new-comers
...and much more. Anything possibly helpful to another ALT is welcome. Even leave a helpful note for your successor if you are leaving.

I hope that with your help, we can build up a wealth of information that will be useful to current and future ALT's from the start to the end of their experience.

Thanks for your help

What makes that site so "ALT-specific"? It could be for any English-teaching jobs in Japan!

I think you need to emphasis that aspect a bit more. Nice start, otherwise, but it still contains a lot of generic info (and none that I could see at a glance about visas).

Good luck.

Hey Glenski, thanks for checking out the site!

So yeah, even though I called the site ALT Wiki, it really could be (and I hope it does become) a site to help anyone who is undertaking the "live and work (teaching English) in Japan" experience.

As for the lack of specific info - that is because it is just starting.. It's a wiki, so while I will be adding articles as well, it needs the teachers who have been here a while to come and share all that valuable knowledge they have learned with other ALT's and english teachers in Japan.

But I think I see what you mean about specific info in relation to visa's. Perhaps I need to add a category "Getting here", and that would be the place to add articles about visa's, finding jobs, etc. - Thanks, I appreciate that tip! I think it will prove useful. Cheers!

If you want to help more than ALTs, change the name.

And, to be honest, I don't see anything different from your site and many others. How are you regulating the wiki to be sure of accurate info?

Hey Glenski,

Appreciate your advice! Coincidental you mention the name, because I was thinking today that I should have called it something else.. but you know, it's tricky finding the right balance between short and sweet and accurately descriptive.

Oh well, the domain name is registered now, so it really is too late..

Anyway, thanks again
