I guess using that binary archive thingy is out then. I knew that seemed a bit too shady... Just signing up for one of those makes it look like you've got something to hide. Also seems a bit overly complicated. Hell, I've never even used a newsgroup.

Nope, I'll stick to a legitimate ISP.

But for downloading copyrighted material, as in, movies, hentai, mp3s, software, etc... I suppose they would give me a "warning" first, before they decided that I needed to be disciplined, eh? or would they just get right to the biggest sentence they could dish out?

And wouldn't "big brother" in Japan be called "onii san?"

*nod* Yeah, that's always the *SAFEST* option, to just be conservative... But not always the most viable at times. I'll see what the atmosphere of the place is before I decide to do anything.

But from what I've gathered on this thread, the consensus seems to be, "If you haven't gotten caught for doing it in the states, it's not likely you'll get caught in Japan." Or am I totally, completely wrong? x_x

Long as I don't go posting/sharing it with others, that is.
 
This seems to have reached its climax point, so I'll finish by saying that you are responsible for yourself. Pushing the envelope as you seem to want to do might work for you in the short term, but these envelopes have a tendency to break. If you decide to knowingly break the law, I have no sympathy for you come what may.

Debating the merit of the law is different than discussing the law itself as is and its application, though.

I'm not addressing or even trying to address anything other than the pure legality of things in this thread.

To be a little more friendly, though, I don't mind discussing what the law SHOULD be; I just don't think it's appropriate to discuss how to try to get around the law or what your odds are on getting caught in engaging in illegal activity.
 
I suppose it was a bit pig-headed of me to ask question like "how can I get caught" or "how do I get around this" or whatever. It kinda brings down the credibility of this whole forum, and in a way, those who have given me information on this thread. Sorry if I've been a bother. >_< But from all the sources I've contacted, I've gathered that as far as file-sharing is concerned, it's no more risky than in the states in terms of risk. Meaning that if you decide to go nuts with your downloading, or actively work on distributing hacked software/games/etc yourself, you WILL get caught, but if you only do it very rarely, you won't be noticed. But still, I'd rather not sign up for a shady usenet/newgroup/whatever that is. Seems a bit too suspicious for my liking. After all, I'd still like reliable internet power for other things. And honestly, the only thing I'd ever do "on the sly" is file sharing, so there's honestly no need for me to get all devious about what sort of ISP I have. The rest is just ordinary gaming, email, chatting, etc.

Hmm, AFAIK the Japanese themselves post movies n all that in zip/rar files and name it 00012.rar or something and fake names At least the sites I heard of But I suggest you take some stuff with you on a HDD or Ipod or whatever when you actually go there.You know...I still don't get why you need pr0n so desperately... :?
 
... Wouldn't a data disc or DVD with that sort of thing just get taken away at customs? Or is Tokyo customs that thorough that they would search all discs? That's something I'd like to know before I even consider doing such a thing. ... Course, even then, I might not try it.

But no, I'm not "desperate" for it. It's just that it seems important now that it appears it's not "allowed." You know, kind of a forbidden fruit thing. Seems more desirable when it's forbidden. Adult entertainment is something we take for granted, if you can think such a thing about it. It's the kind of thing you'd NOTICE if you didn't have any.

You obviously do not have any respect for Japan, or women in Japan to be talking about it like that.
 
Although this question isn't Internet-related, but I walked into what I thought was a mainstream video store in Shibuya, only it was a porno video store. If the Japanese are so hung-up against showing genitalia on porno channels, are they equally hung-up against genitalia in their home videos (DVD & VHS)? Are they also blocked with pixelization? If they can legally sell porn, blocked or not, I wouldn't think it would be a crime to obtain it from the Internet. Could it be because it is not blocked, maybe? Frankly, I don't see why they even bother if all formats are blocked.
 
This is all pretty educational for me, since I don't know the fine print of the law, so I'm learning.

It is funny, however, I can go down to the major department downtown, and buy an art book by one famous air brush artist (can't think of his name at the moment, because I'm so bad with names) who shows it all in very realistic, living color--like wow !! So much r the comic book vague outlines and suggested forms of something there, no more need for the imagination in this one.

So, is that major--as in Parco--store breaking the law by selling such books?
