Is having any crime on your background check an automatic no-entry into Japan?

Even for short-term stints, right? I wonder what the producers of the show did; either follow proper procedures to get them the visas they needed, or just tell them to lie to immigration to save time.

Although I think this is off-topic, I would think that based on your description, the models went to Japan on tourist visas. Technically that is illegal, but I don't think Immigration is very concerned with such scenarios.

as the models where probs being paid by a non-japanese company (or more likely not paid atall) i doubt the japanese immigration or tax departments will be too bothered.
Doing a bit of casual DJing or MCing would probs not be worth the effort getting a work or entertainer visa in my eyes. The work would probably be low paid and cash in hand unless your a top level DJ or entertainer.
If you've atually got solid nights booked and your a professional entertainer then sure, get an entertainer visa, if your going over to check around or on a verbal 'yeah sure, you can spin a few at my club' promise just treat it as more pleasure than work.

Yes, as far as I know, it is an entertainer visa. For those who have names, it seems easier. I don't really know the details other than what I picked up when doing some translation for a company which had a show hall.
