I'm a 20 years old man, who's mentally challenged, and without friends. I was wondering if there are any other mentally challenged people out here, who wants to .... talk or hang out.

when I meant mentally challenged, I'm really declared with the pwd status by the british columbia ministry of health. I rarely find other individuals who're like me. Normal people are just not at my "level" if you understand what I mean..

this is a serious thread.

Hello there Billy!
I kind of know how you feel. I am not mentally challenged myself, but someone very close to me is. His situation is similar to yours in the fact that he has few friends. He's actually one of the nicest guys I know and people have abused that in the past.. He currently has one really good friend he can share his thoughts and feelings with, which makes me really happy; it's easy for him to make friends, but people find it difficult to feel comfortable around him.
I guess this post is pretty useless as I cannot offer you any close friendships, other than the casual posts and replies we exchange on this forum. Having said that, I know this forum is full of nice people wanting to get in touch with anything that is positive and lively, so I'm sure if you drop a post from now and then people will react in a friendly manner.

What is PWD status? Being English I am not sure what it means.

Persons with disabilities, maybe ? I have no idea either.

It must be fairly mild, though, to have the capacity for writing about it....

Marino, I also had a few friends in the past, but I don't talk to them anymore. This is because they're "high rollers". They're always spending too much money, they're always asking if I want to go travel with them, to the province next to B.C or to the state next to B.C.

People like them with employment doesn't understand how rare money is. They're always saying ok I'll spend money, but I'll earn it back next month. The difference between me, and them is, I only get a small amount of money from the government every month.

So you see not only I need to find people, or a girlfriend I can hang out with, without always having to spend money, without always having to travel to somewhere, I want to find people like me, who're also depended on the government. Who also love to hang out at places where it cost no money ex: "Special Olympic training".

It's humoring every time, when a normal person judges me. It is incorrect that you find my mental illnesses to be mild. I'm more of a problem than the people who couldn't qualify for special Olympic. At least logically this would be the point of view from the provincial, and federal government.

Let just say the people who can't comprehend their own mental illnesses. Don't do as much damage as people like me who can comprehend our own mental illnesses. Damage in dollars.

I think GoodBilly has seen the movie 'The Ringer' - about a man who pretends to be mentally disabled in order to get into the special olympics. And he's decided he'll have a go at doing the same online.

And if I didn't know any better I'd say it was the same poster who made the Bexchurnside posts and who's decided to make up another character. It bears the same hallmarks.

Making an issue of it in each post......

seems a bit obsessive? It sure makes it hard to say anything negative to the person or to argue with him; makes you feel guilty? Guess time will tell as his posts go on, we may learn more.

lol the ringer is a good movie, but please don't offend us special olympic athletes . Some of my colleagues are only deaf and declared the same status I have. You can make statements like that here, however I wouldn't recommend you making a statement like that in public.

Maybe I'm better with talking to people, but I can't say that for the rest of the mentally challenged people. In fact many have done criminal acts in the past, and they wouldn't share their story or stories with anyone.

Think of it this way, even some sex offenders are declared with the "mentally ill" status and declared with a PWD. Like everyone else in the world, there are bad and good people, and I can easily say of all the people I met with pwd status I'm one with the... most regular manner, even a lot of times it's socially unacceptable.

Of all the mentally ill people, I'm one of the few who never offended the law, and oddly this may sound, and it sounds very odd for our kind due to how society judged us or is judging us. I'm a respected citizen, who would use physical harmful force to try keep the law, if it's needed. If I saw another mentally ill person touching a minor, I would say "step outside". Although this had never happened, I have learned the fact that some mentally ill people are sex offenders.

And of course regardless to the fact, The majority are made up of simply mentally ill folks like me. There are still a lots of "people" released from Imprisonment, by having the status.

Secondly, they may even look like the everyday people, but working in public or going to school.

This is happening in another part of the world, this is just something I googled up quickly for "a better understanding, for our beloved normal citizens" *bow*, for a mentally ill person sometimes I do have manner, how very very odd.

The Times & The Sunday Times

I can assure you that, only an amount of mentally ill people are the people you find in the article, my advice is.

It really helps when you stop calling us animals or barbarians, like my special educator does hmm ok?

Last of all, be well aware that the usual mentally ill have less tolerance for provokes, than me. Many people have commented that I'm a mellow person even as a retard(politically incorrect), I'm actually a person with a retardation(politically correct).

Let me tell you a very important phase and remember it. "God help those who helps themselves"

If you ever found a person driving oddly or struck in the middle of the road, IT could be because they're heavily abusing drug(once again I never broken the law but I know of people declared with pwd status by heavily abuse of drug and chronicles of damaging of public property cases). The main reason the provincial government declare this status are for people with issues who need "looking" after by society.

The meaning of "God help those who help themselves" means that you want to help yourself by not provoking that type of mentally challenged or ill.I think god wants people to help themselves from not getting waxed.

Have you yet specified what exactly you've been diagnosed with? So far you've only used the phrases "Mentally challenged, mentally ill, retardation, pwd," and so on in several posts... Do you just have a low IQ, or an actual affliction that you can share with us, instead of automatically assuming that you're being talked down to. Your writing is very coherent, so I'm just curious about exactly what your disability is.

Very good question, let me elaborate on how the B.C ministry of health or Canada does it's judgment for which person have the eilibility for a PWD status. First of all, it takes the recommendations of a few psychiatrists, or psychologists, or physicians. For a mentally challenged man I'm very good good tempered am I?

people have to give me credit for that, however let me get to the bottom line. I don't know how they declare a status in the U.S. In Canada we determine how the illness affects them from living a normal life. In other words on the chart it asks, how does this indiviual's problem have an impact on him/her, from living a normal life.

Say like for a classmate I knew back in high school, he's blind, therefore by not seeing things it has an impact on him, that causes him unable to live a normal life, however many people like yourself underestimate disabled people. Johnny is a blind chess champion, and a good swimmer.

We are used to the criticism. Anyhow I'm just glad I have to time to correct the ignorant, "regular citizens".

Even for a fact, there are many different reasons why a person is declared disabled, and replying to your question "what exactly you've been diagnosed with?", well you see even some doctors get specific on making the reports(assessments, forms).

However what only matters is how Canada judge, who is a person with a disability. who is a person eligible to live a life, like already dead (dramatic)

Also remember that for a fact, "THERE are MANY" vile reasons why some mentally ill people have an illness or illnesses that affects them from living a normal life, and this illness or illnesses that causes the "major impact" could be very frowned upon by society.

Hmm well I don't know much about mental disabilities and what not, but it seems to me that you have logic that flows and you write quite clearly and correctly.

Obviously you are able to hold a normal and regular conversation, from what I can see here, so maybe you need to look for friends who are more humble shall we say in terms of money and what not.

Also, I don't want to discourage members from expressing their mind on the forum, however your problem may not be suited so much for this forum seeing as it is mainly Japan based, I doubt there are many people here that can help you out with your current issue. Perhaps may I suggest a more appropriate forum or community that can really understand and relate to your situation, I'm sure you'll be able to get more assistance, help, and understanding than you would here.

So far, it just seems that you have a disability because you've been told so. Am I to understand that you've never been diagnosed with a specific affliction, like a form of autism or mild retardation?

You see, my case is rather odd. Even I may sound a little off topic, but I'll make a point. The reason I'm qualified for the special olympic is because I have the pwd status. Most coaches find me a little too "regular" even the government people does not. The fact is, I swim even better than some coaches. I'm a young man in perfectly good physical health.

The reason I been declared the pwd status, are of mixture of reasons. The main reason is because I have a short term memory. A very short term memory. In other words maybe a chimp can learn faster, and remember the new information better than I do. It's the matter of my mentality too, all my life I couldn't find the will to learn. The funny thing is when it comes to everything I shouldn't remember, I remember it easy(in a way that's not by choice)

Second of all, I have problems with talking to people. You're right, a bit like autism. Either I get scared of people, or people get scared of me.

I'm sure you'll be able to get more assistance, help, and understanding than you would here.

But I like it here, so I'm going to stay.

By all means, please do contribute on the different topics as much as you can. I was only suggesting that maybe the topic of your problem may be suited for a different setting that can deal with it more appropriately. However, as I said above feel free and encouraged to contribute as much in the different and many threads that have going on here

at least you aren't dumb (or you can think in a rational way). i have two brothers (twins) who have schizophrenia, they have no friends, and of course they don't have girlfriend because of his disease. they have only us, the family. and even i can't stand them. it's really annoying to be their sister.
oh, and here where i live we don't have special olympics or government economic support (because they simply don't have money).

Thanks for the encouragement, I like it when people are honestly wanting to encourage me to do something. I met a lot of people in the past who have very bad will towards me, and yet they're still encouraging me. Sometimes I can see it in their face that they want to hurt me, just because I couldn't remember something.

Mika, most times is not the mentally challenged people who annoys others. The truth is, it's always the normal people who annoys us, by not understanding our life style, and our ways of life.

I also have silbings who find me annoying, especially my older brother, but a lot of times what you don't understand is I find him, difficult to live with. For example sometimes out of the blue I would be making noises, and he would hit me for that.

I like iimitating many things, the thing I like to imitate most would be a "Steam machine" , I like making the noise "Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeur" Another thing I like imitating is a dinobird, and the sound for that is "Ackkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk".

By the way Mika, if your country has no government support for the mentally challenged citizens. I think your country failed horribly. It is horrific to even know that people lives in it. Without a government that looks atfer the country's citizens. There is no point for an economy.

Your brothers are better people, they should move.

Billy, do you remember what I told you in chat earlier?

did you know that not all countrys are like canada? that most of the world is starving?

and, by the way if they move from our home then how can my brothers live? the can't work, nor study. and please try to see things from other's point of view.
