I woke up hearing screams...

@Alexandria

I think they're fairly common throughout Japan, but more so in the warm, humid regions.

I have never being stung or bitten by insects or animals like wasps, snakes, centipedes, dogs (apart from harmless mosquitos).

The only unwanted and painful encounter I have had with animals or insects is being stamped on my foot by a horse's hoof (auch! The hoof made my poor foot blue), and I have tried feeding (only) mosquitos too many times....

Heh, you don't know insect related horror until you wake up with a potato bug in your bed. Nevermind that they aren't poisonous or dangerous to humans in any way, they are the most lothesome, disgusting things you could ever lay your eyes on--looking at them it's hard to believe that they can't kill you by sight alone...

...and when you wake up in the middle of the night...

...in your bed...

...in the dark...

...in the nude...

...after feeling a slight movement against your thigh...

...and you pull back the covers to reveal a fat, mouse-sized, chitinous monstrosity looking up at you as it crawls toward your crotch on it's many, rapidy moving legs...

...lets just say it's the only time I've screamed in my life--and that my throat hurt for about two days after that...

...needless to say I quit my summer job at the farm after that.

gosh,, Reiku !!!

first of all : what are you doing in the dark, in the nude ???

he ?

Sleeping...

...it gets hot in California during the summer.
