Is it out yet? I thought it was out in Spring but I think they delayed it =\
 
It sounded like the official release date has been set for sometime in October... can't remember the exact date off the top of my head. In any event, it's not too far off now...
 
As soon as it comes out I will "buy" it.
 
The Japanese streetdate for this album, which is titled "Exodus", is september 8. It will be released in the US four weeks later. Also, she will simply use her last name "Utada" as the the artist-name for this album, both for the Japanese and US release.

Well, after hearing what they plan to use for the first single here, 'Easy Breezy', I am very afraid. It's a terrible song, and I can say I have NEVER heard a terrible, or even remotely bad song from Hikki. It sounds ridiculous, her saying that the person she is talking about in the song is 'easy breezy' and that she's 'japanesey'... Excuse me, did she just say Japanesey? what? Is this the 70's or something? I haven't heard that expression since I was 5.

Christ, I have nothing but hopes for her over here, but if she releases that as her fist single, and if the rest of the album is like that, she's doomed.

Sorry to be negative, but its very hard to hear a singer of her calibre make a song like that.

It's Utada Hikaru's first U.S. album.

I just have to own it no matters how "terrible" it is. I will buy it in person from a store because I value the rare opportunity of not having to order it online.

Ouch... I'm with you in wishing her success in her U.S. debut, but that doesn't sound very encouraging at all. Where did you get a chance to hear that single? I'd like to check it out too... is it off her website or something?

Thanks for the heads-up... I'm still hoping for the best, but I guess now I'll start preparing for the worst too.
 
Yeah, well many of the songs on the album are produced by Timbaland...
Now i'm not going to judge it before i hear it, but... Timbaland...
 
Has anybody Heard Utada's first released track on the Rush Hour 2 soundtrack titled, "Blow My Whistle"? She and Foxy brown are a duo on that song, but it's definitely not one on the greatest tracks ever produced. However, they seem to coincide with each other pretty well, and I guess I have to give her props for getting it released on that sound track. I'm still by far a "First Love" Fan.....
 
Yeah, I picked up that soundtrack specifically because of Hikki's track on there... I'd have to agree with you on that one. It's not even close to being my favorite Hikki song, but I didn't think it was all that bad either. It is what it is, and it has its good and bad points.

I've been much happier with her J-tracks, though "Simple & Clean" from the Kingdom Hearts videogame is a pretty good English track... hopefully the stuff on her hew album will be in that vein, but some of the talk above has got me a little worried... oh well, I'll take a "Wait & See" attitude toward it...

 
the two songs 'Devil Inside' and 'Easy Breezy' are just crap. she just gave up R&B

she can't sing,even US mainstream singers can sing better than her,and with some crappy songs like these two, I can almost foresee failure.

I haven't heard Devil Inside, but I have heard the other one which I didn't care too much for at first.

Saying she can't sing is just insane. She sings very well, just not when she has insane lyrics.

I pray this album is not cheesy.

she just can't hit the notes, I do not know why she just gave up on R&B
her first album was the best one, but her works in these 2,3 years are just disappointing,she is just giving up R&B, I thought she would do R&B on her US debut album and I had expected something good from her
 
It's true that she can't sing very well. Just listen to her unplugged sessions or that live-track she did with Shiina Ringo. She's just been lucky to have good producers around her from the start.

She hasn't done R&B since her second album and many of the tracks on her first album couldn't actually be classified as R&B. Nothing wrong with good pop though.
 
wha? no way, i can't believe what i'm hearing. I loved easy breezy, and devil inside, and blow my whistle! They rocked in my opinion...then again that might just make me a stupidly obsessive hikki fan in denial about it

i don't have no opinion one way or the other, cept that brittany spears ain't got no lyrics or a hot voice either, but she got money
probably going to come down to whoever/wherever gets the payola -- as far as how well she does
 
The US street Date is officially Oct. 5th.

I work for Universal Music (the label producing Hikki's album here in the US for Island records) and we have not yet pressed any copies of the album "Exodus".

But we have pressed and shipped out DJ promos for both "Easy Breezy", and "Devil Inside". But we made a very very small number of them, which kinda worries me. If Universal isn't going to promote her album any in the upcoming months then I fear this album may not do too well.

We only pressed around 5,000 each, which is a very very low number, compared to say 200,000 copies of Ashley Simpsons single in one 24 hour work day!

But my initial impressions of both songs that I've heard are not that high, but I will say that in my opinion "Devil Inside" is far greater a song than "Easy Breezy".

But I hope the best for her career in the US, if for only the hope that other Japanese artists may take notice and follow her example to release albums stateside.

This was a point I brought up on another thread about the upcoming Utada album... I didn't have high hopes for Utada's success, mostly because I figured the release wouldn't really get that much label support. "Exodus" would pretty much have to succeed from almost a grassroots level, since the label doesn't have much of a problem with the artist/album dying on the vine, so to speak.

A friend of mine had a band which underwent that sort of experience... signed with a major label, had an album released that wasn't supported by any promotion whatsoever and then (I assume) was dropped due to low popularity. I don't quite understand the mentality... are failed artists/albums tax write-offs for the label?

Anyway, like you said, I'll still hope for Hikki's success but I'm not holding my breath... as far as other J-Artists coming over, frankly I prefer the Tofu Records approach of getting the original Japanese releases on U.S. shelves... but I'm in a very small minority there (not amongst the forum members, I think, but compared to the general American music-buying public).

Hey, the album is out now (well at least in Japan). I'm happy to say that it's not as bad as i thought it would be. "Easy Breezy" is probably the worst track and after hearing it a few times, that song isn't that bad at all, except that Hikaru is trying to go beyond her vocal range in the verses.

The whole album is a good listen, but i can't somehow help thinking that her Japanese albums were better. That's probably because we expect too much of her these days.
 
well i have it and i'm not too impressed. i just got it for collection.
