Hi, I'm new to the forum and it's a great resource!
I'm interested in learning japanese and learning more about modern japanese culture. Does anyone have any book/website recommendations about modern japan or (miracle of miracles) know where I could potentially get japanese lessons in Dublin?
Though I have to say, just browsing the threads is giving me quite some insight!
It's nice to meet everyone and I'm looking forward to learning more!

I haven't heard of the words before, so I googled them and it's by Thin Lizzy! They're an old Irish rock band, my mum has them on her ipod haha. They're pretty good!

I am from states, and my actions were following: googling for Japan America Society, they have classes.
I hope similar society should be in Ireland.

Please, read Learning Japanese of that forum,
it is good source of information about japanese. I am sure You'll find everything here.

Ah, thank you so much for the advice! I've taken a quick look through the forum areas you recommended and they're looking promising! I've spent the past 5 or 6 days memorising hiragana and katakana, so I was a little stuck as to what to do next! Also thank you for recommending zoomingjapan's blog! I've only had time to take a quick look but it is very beautiful and well laid out, so I'm looking forward to reading more of it later.

I'm (hopefully!!) going to university this october, and by then I should have my driving license and finances sorted. After that I'm hoping to take more official lessons as I'm sure that would help me a lot more than blindly picking up random pieces of language that I don't really understand! haha. Unfortunately Southern Ireland has a very small population and no real links with Japan apart from your standard anime fans, so it may be hard to find a reputable place to learn.

Again, thank you for taking the time to help me. I really appreciate it.

Try to contact them Ireland Japan Association (IJA) first, prolly they have answers.

You should click "Settings" in menubar on the top.
Choose "Edit Avatar" in "My Settings" sidebar on the left.
