I'm a 23 years old girl from Italy.
I came across this forum while searching for a translation!
I studied japanese at university and in 2013 I lived in Kyoto for 3 months.
Right now I'm doing my thesis about hikikomori and NEET.

I suspect that there are quite a few hikikomoris who use the forum ... but by their very nature would probably not engage in any discussions with you.

I met a young couple last night who would be deemed NEETs. Neither of them had jobs, seemed interested in looking for work, or were in any form of study. They both lived with their respective parents .. and from our conversation and the places they had been out to in the last week, were obviously being (generously) supported by them!!

I pointed out to them the `staff wanted` sign in the window of the Izakaya we were sitting in .... and they laughed ... as if I had suggested they sell their bodies on the street corner!
I gave up on any ideas of giving fatherly advice, and just enjoyed chatting to them ... they were a nice couple.
