Help wanted! Spell checker...

Odd hours, low pay, and few benefits.

Seriously, the software that supports the Forum surely will support a spell checker, and *gasp* perhaps even a syntax checker! I would love the services of them (and would be willing to donate more for the privilage of using it, if that would help!).

A quick scan of the posts here will tell you that many other members of the Forum would do well to use a spell checker also.

Please?

Currently, I must copy down any words, sentences, and even entire posts to WORD for spell checking. It is a royal PITA.

I will do just that! On another forum (the Aerodrome Forum for any WWI aviation buffs out here) I find that the incorporated spell-checker is very useful and I play a game by trying to post comments where all of the words are at least spelled correctly.

I spell check by copying and pasting words that I'm not sure about into Merriam-Webster's online dictionary.

I've found it's quicker and easier to find the correct spellings if you copy and paste them into Google.

(You do have to watch out as it doesn't /always/ suggest alternative spellings for wrongly spelt words).

Apparently, there a modification that allows for the inclusion of a spell-checking function into the forum script, but I am wondering if it's really necessary. I'd also opt for Webster's.

Needed? That is a matter of opinion. I think that it would save me time, but if that is the consensus, I suppose that I can live with the status quo ante.

As far as it being necessary....oh, yeah I would think that a case could easily be made. Not only a spell-checker, but also a grammar checker, a syntax checker. I am viewed as a fanatic for detail in my own correspondence, and I raise a critical eyebrow for those who are unduly careless in their own. However, this is not English Comp 225 so I must admit that your reservations are not without foundation, thomas.

I am of the same opinion as you, Shooter, but most people just don't care, and I believe it would be impossible to make them care. Are you suggesting a spelling, grammar, and syntax checker that is automatic before the post is uploaded?

Naaaahhhhhh! I just don't wanna work so hard to type my posts. For those who do not care...let them continue.

If it is ego, I confess my indulgence. If it is conceit, I do apologize. But I think what you write says a great deal about you. I make an effort to ensure that my words say I am thoughtful and careful.

Oh, I thought you were saying that you wanted other people's posts to be easier to read. I know I have a hard time reading some people's posts because it's a headache trying to get through all of the errors, and some of them I can't read at all. Anyway, I'm not really sure what I said about myself earlier, or at least not what you think I said about myself, other than I'm a bit anal.
