Help translating manga (romaji provided)

I'm gonna keep this post up but I have to fix the text below.



I speak very minimal Japanese, in fact I've only barely begun. But I know enough to translate a manga from Japanese to romanji...at least I think. sO while I was at Kinkuniya I bought Parfait Tic volume 13 because I am a PT-aholic Last night I translated about 6 or so pages to romanji and would really like to know what in the heck is going on. Here are my translations, could someone please help me translate this to english?:

Page 50-- Fuuko (thoughts): Atashi no ashiato Ichi ga magu kaku puwo zuttsu tosuta ita no ha don na omoika radarou
(more thinking) Ashiato wo kese pa subete o wa shichiya una ga Ichi mo tetano kana
Ichi: "Uwa wa kee"

p.51-- Fuuko: "samu kunai yo kore gurai nani? Imo kara bouna
Ichi (dunno if it's him or Fuuko, best guess is him): "Ma bouna. Nen matsu ne mateshi ha otoshi dama terushi
Fuuko: "Etsu maji!? Ibou na!!"
Ichi: "Kuru ka?"

p.52-- Ichi: "Baito hito ka pamete sa mama san ga anta ka Daiya mata dobou kanashita (thinking)A......handa......
Fuuko: "Demo anashi donku saishi namu mata mei waku ka kechi pa..."
Ichi: "Patsu te ta shan. Anta naka ni pawate ta yo chan dp"
Fuuko: "......Pametoku"

p.53-- Fuuko: "Dai(oo in furigana) souji no tochi dakara"
Ichi: "Na? Beniima sugu koito he"

p.54-- Fuuko: "OOSOUji.......!!"

p.55-- Fuuko: "Dai(oo in furigana) souji no......
Tochiyuu dakara......
......Dakara"

There's a difference between translation and transliteration.

please, do tell cause I'm confused @_@

Changing them from one writing form to another is transliteration.
Changing them from one language to another is translation.

Have you learned about reading characters such as や、ゆ、よ when they are smaller than the rest of the text and placed to one side just a wee bit? Take another look at "tochiyuu" and see if the ゆ isn't like that.

Also, just a guess, but you seem to be confusing や and ぱ. And maybe some other things as well. As it stands, it's such a mishmash that it's hard to make heads or tails out of it.

And it's a surefire way to kill your interest in learning Japanese....unless you have a natural masochistic streak.

You're finding out that attempting to teach one's self Japanese through translating manga is hardly an optimum approach to the task.

I think you should, if you want to do this, first note down all kanji from a particular page/chapter that you don't know yet and learn those by heart, the readings and if they make words with other characters, those words too. Otherwise, it's extremely difficult at first and you can quite possibly not pull it off if you're just starting. I tried that too a year ago with Japanese manga I had and I found it difficult too, but now it's easier for me. Just hang in there ^^

I think he should put them on the very back of the highest shelf in his closet and break them out again after he has completed at least some small degree of study of the basics through a normal textbook, be it on his own or through a class. As learning materials, they certainly have their place....and on the shelf in the closet it their place for the time being.

Personally, I never bought a textbook but if I had one, I'd read it all the time. I probably won't because I like that I'm getting my knowledge all from the internet and it's not costing me anything.

I have a huge list of bookmarks for learning japanese. A Select List of Japanese Language Study Sites has many good links categorized into helpful sections and once I found it, things got a lot easier. The many JLPT learning sites and other sites make getting access to simple things pretty easy.

If not for the manga/anime and this site though, I'd lose a lot of the interest. I love it when I'm reading/listening to something in japanese and I get something because I something I recently learned. It's so cool because it reminds me of my original reason to learn and shows me I'm getting somewhere. And I think it's a whole lot better source of easy japanese than news places. Sure there's a lot of slang but there's not too much learning curve with things like that with this site. And people will much more likely be saying things like "this is a ___" or "you are ___" or things like that than news reports.

You have a good point but hey whatever keeps interest. I would just suggest looking for the easy parts. Short sentences, things like that. Learn some words and then find the sentences with the words you learned. Sentences with beginner words are more likely to have other beginner words in them.

To MikeCash: "He" is a she, XD Also, I have been trying to learn basic Japanese and am doing fine 'cept I've got to re-read my notes from the book I'm using to refresh myself XD

To namesae: Yeah, I just started doing something like that, 'cept just writing down any and all kanji that I come across along with their single translation but also the page number (I have a book from teh Library on Kanji) so I can find it again if and when I come across it with pairings.

To McCrutch67: I know exactly what you mean when you talk about getting excited because you hear/read something in Japanese and you know what it means ^^ Cause I remeber looking up a kanji in the pages above and fnding the one that meant "footprints" and then when the group that is currently scanlating the series finished and posted that chapter I found "footprints" right where I translated it ^^ I was soooo excited!!!!

Mccrutch, The "listening to" portion of your link is EXACTLY what I've been looking for! Thanks so much. Reading is one thing, but I want to be able to pronounce it first!
