HELP - japan banknotes

hello to everyone,

i'm on my way to japan within 10 days and i was reading something about japan bank notes as i would like to get some cash before landing there...
Seems like the series D banknotes are officially suspended now, i would like to know if i can still change them with the new issues while in Japan or if they are useless now...
The risk of getting these series D issues here in Italy is pretty high as i'm not sure our banks have changed their stocks..
Anybody can help me with some details about the situation?

The suspension only means that Japanese banks will no longer dispense series D notes. You can still use the notes just like before so there's nothing to worry about.

How do you tell the difference (not that it matters)? I have some Japanese banknotes that I obtained in Los Angeles (I am leaving today for Japan).

go to Wikipedia and look for "Japanese_yen", there you can find the full set of japanese bank notes

Are you arriving at Narita? Then, just use one of the currency exchange booths at the Narita Airport upon your arrival. That's what I always do. You'll probably get better rates there than in Italy.

Then, one less thing to worry about.

I got some older bills in my wallet as I only visit once a year or so. Never got a problem. If you are concerned with older currencies you already have, you can always stop by at any bank and ask them to either check or change them.

I checked the Wiki on the currency and mine are all fine. Thanks. Right now I am in Tokyo. Spent most of this evening with the hotel staff getting my laptop configured right.

That's really a good suggestion, i'll just keep the old notes that i already have and exchange the rest once in Narita
