Hello there, members of JREF.
My name is Joseph, but please call me Joe. I'm eighteen years old, and a member of the British Army.
I've always loved the culture of Japan (visited once a few years ago), and have been - perhaps haphazardly - teaching myself the language using textbooks, Japanese friends, Tae Kim's guide and japanesepod101.
As such, I believe that I have a sort of broken understanding of the language (to say, I know some complex grammar rules and yet don't know some of the more simple ones). To this end, I have signed up with the purpose of attaining some direction in my studies.
Some of my pet hates:
1) British people/American people who want to learn a language when they can't even speak their own to a semi-decent standard. It is fair enough that non-native speakers get it wrong sometimes, but when it is your own language, should you REALLY be trying to learn someone else's? This is more aimed at those who speak with 'txt tlk' etc.
A Pakistani friend of mine who has been learning English for 3 years has better English than my thirteen year old sister.
2) People who chew gum while talking to you.
3) People who put every little bit of information about themselves onto the internet and yet complain about CCTV cameras "invading privacy".
Saying that, I won't judge people or get on their backs for going against my dislikes...
I'm a chilled out guy really!
