Hey there!
For the purposes of this message board I will be using the name Hakumei. Hakumei is not my real name. My real name never gets pronounced right
Anyways...
I have lived in the US my entire life, but became interested in Japan about three years ago. After taking some classes in Japan-stuff, I discovered that I had a real aptitude for, well, Japan-stuff. I recently graduated with a focus in Japanese Studies and Literature, and am now seeking admittance into the MA of Japanese studies at UW. My goal is to become a translator. I'm pretty open as to what I'll translate, to be honest. I just love translation.
I have translated some literature (Souseki and Kawabata), and currently I am working as a translator for a scanlation group.
However...
Gya!
there is a huge, HUGE difference between translating literature (which is good grammar) and manga (which tells grammar where it can go and what it can do when it gets there).
I am hoping that this forum will prove beneficial in helping me to figure out those fun little problems that one can only encounter in the sweet flow of colloquial speech. In other words, I will be posting a lot of grammar and vocab questions so that my translations don't make me look stupid...
Yes.
Anyways,
I am very happy to be here, and look forward to talking with you!
