I am a French Canadian who, from the mother tongue, speaks and write fluently in French. However, because of my nationality, I am also fluent in English (which is a must in Canada anyway, as French, while recommended to know, won't get you as far).
As for Japanese, I am on self learning since about 2 weeks. Of course, because of my nature with anime and live action movies/drama, I know some of the most overused and basics words one would hear in every day life.
If I can in the future (in 2 years or so), I want to take part of a student exchange program.
