My name is Laura and I'm 43. I am a teacher's aide in a preschool for autistic children. My interest in Japan started when my then 17 year old son introduced me to Japanese music. (It has cost me a small fortune so far in cds, but worth every penny!) I loved it and wanted to know what they were singing. From there it was on to manga and anime and movies. Now I am attempting to learn the language on my own. Hopefully I will be able to learn enough about the customs and culture to be able to enjoy our first family trip there...someday.

Thats great! Maybe you could find some online lessons somewhere also? Sorry Im not too sure on any links, as I haven't tried with Japanese.

Thank you all for the warm welcomes. What a friendly place...
In answer to all the interest:
Kara Nari - Thank you. I have found some online sites that are helpful, but right now I am attempting to learn from textbooks. It is slow, but I will be around for a long time any way.
Kinsao - First my son introduced me to Gackt's music. From there it was onto Malice Mizer, MdM, Kozi's solo stuff, Miyavi, L'Arc~en~Ciel, and now pretty much anyone who likes the same stuff and suggests someone else, I will give a listen to.
Frank D. White - Hello neighbor! One by one we are visiting the states. Good thing I am immortal because at the rate I'm going...well, you get the idea.
Sensuikan San - Hehe...that made me laugh. Glad to reinforce "the ranks". Now I feel special!
