Dear native English speakers,

Would someone proofread again?

1 I have been writing this story since 2005.

2 Mike has been living in New York for ten years.

3 Somebody has been painting this bench.

4 Mike has been living in Kyoto for thirty years.

5 I have been driving for three hours.

6 Mr. White has been teaching at this school since 2008.

7 My sister has been reading a book since morning.

8 My parents have been staying at this hotel since last week.

9 The baby has been sleeping for an hour.

10 My mother has been paying the piano for fifty years.

11 It has been raining since morning.

Thanks in advance.

Hirashin

7 will sound a bit better if you say "since this morning" or maybe "book all morning".

I think 10 has a spelling error , it should be playing not paying?

11 would sound better to my ear if it was "since this morning" or just "raining all morning".

I may be just to fussy.

Uncle Frank

Thank you for your help, Uncle Frank. I appreciate it.

I'll change them as you've pointed out.

Hirashin

I agree with Frank, and I also personally find that "stay in a hotel" is more preferable to "stay at a hotel". I'm not sure if I'm in the majority on that one, though.

Thank you for your help, Glenn.

I think you can say both "stay at a hotel" and "stay in a hotel".
In which case would you use "stay at a hotel"?

How about "arrive at a hotel" and "arrive in a hotel"?

Hmm... Prepositions are always puzzling me.

Hirashin

Actually, now that I look at it again, "at" seems more normal. I have no idea. Maybe it's just a time-of-day thing. Just go with what you have (i.e., "at").

I always thought that we should use 'at' if it is about some particular hotel, and 'in' if fact of being in hotel is much more important than hotel name or location. In the other words 'I had to stay at Ritz hotel', and 'I had to stay in hotel'.

Half-n-Half, You are right about car, however, there are many other ways to arrive into hotel, as stuffed animal for example

Thank you for your help, Glenn and Half-n-half.

ewww san, ohisashiburi desu. How have you been?

Half-n-half san, are you studying in Japan now?

Hirashin

hifashin san, I am doing great and still in mint condition  Thanks for asking.
I am sneakin' around all the time, may be little busy.

Hope that everything is good with You.
