Harimaya Bridge, a famous sightseeing spot in Kochi, was named the most disappointing tourist attraction in Japan (along with the Sapporo Clock Tower and Oranda-zaka (オランダ坂, Hollander Slope) in Nagasaki).
To counter its reputation, Kochi City did what every other reasonable Japanese municipality would do: create new mascots, Harima (はりま) and Yabashi (やばし). They represent the twin fairies (妖精 yōsei) of the bridge railing and aim at attracting more tourists to the bridge despite its disappointing size.
