Gap year in Japan

Hello all!
My friend and I are planning to travel around Japan in our gap year (we are currently both 15 so this will be in around 3 or 4 years time) and we would like some advice about certain cultural differences between Japan and where we live (which is England) and sites to see and good places to visit etc. I'm currently learning Japanese so by the time we go there, one of us will be able to speak the language reasonably well. As I said, this will be in a couple of years time so there is no rush. We're going to take a loan out before we go so we can pay for it (I'm going to army med school so this isn't much of a problem ).

Are you planning a head?
I think the biggest fun of travelling is to plan what to do, what to see, what to eat, etc. besides actually visit the place.
As for the places to visit, it really up to you - it depends on what you are interested in.

Sounds like a lot of fun planning your travel! I planned for about a year before I went to Australia for 1 year... totally different than Japan, though.

Thanks for the advice - these websites are really helpful As to what cities the both of use wish to visit, we decided that Kyoto and Tokyo are at the very top of our lists. Any recommendations?
