Yes, yes. I know I was a bit rude and I meant to be a bit rude. But seriously, Gackt has announced his sexual preference to be girls you know. MULTIPLE times. hyde's married and has a kid so I think that also speaks for itself.

It's just so seriously annoying when fangirls insist that they're together. Hell. Miyavi and Daigo have gone further and actually kissed for fanservice, so where're the Miyago threads and fanclubs?

Don't get me wrong. I'm a yaoi fan. To amuse my perverted mind I write yaoi fanfiction even. I just think it's about time some people understand the difference between amusing fiction and honest reality.

There's really no evidence. In old pictures, he looks younger; new pictures, he looks older. Old pictures, eyes are more open; new pictures, more hooded -- an indication that he's going through the natural aging process. Let's just accept that the man's eyes are a lucky freak manifestation. I'd also like to point out that his eyelashes are longer than the average Japanese, but I doubt he pastes false ones on every time he ventures out into the public.

To satiate your curiousity, yes; he has altered something on his face.

The man has natural catipillar brows, so he plucks.



EDIT:

Another example of a Japanese celebrity with occidental-looking eyes would be MatsuJun of Arashi. Comparisons have been drawn between the two. He also has heavy/dramatic brows, long lashes, and a prominent double-lid. His eyes also look natural (bone structure around the eyes is also telling).

I got my Diabolos album from ebay as well. I look on various other sites and then check what is available on ebay and see if it is cheaper. I am using it to build up my rather limited Jrock collection. Buy it now is cool, means you don't have to bid or worry about some git sniping you

But unlucky me... In this period of time i can`t get what i want , so I can congratulate You, but I can only dreaming about Gackt

Both are cuties...
But I vote for Gackt!!! He`s so awesome and so talanted!! I`m just addicted to his voice and totaly to him....

I can't really decide who i like better. Gackts voice calms me when i'm angry, but on the other side Hydes voice makes me feel better and happy I dunno so i'm not going to vote
 
I voted for Gackt. His voice has a certain power and apppeal that makes me listen to him sing even if I may not like the background music to it. He is one of the few singers that have ever surprised with there vocal range I can listen to a few songs sung by Hyde but for the most part his voice reminds me to much of mix of a cat and one of those singers that attempt sound emotional but come off as whiney.

I voted for Gackt.I personally don't understand why Hyde is so popular.. ☝ In my opinion,Gackt has a better voice and he looks cute. But that's just what I think.

It's hard to choose cause they're both very talented musicians, but Hyde always wins out in the end for me.....his voice is so strong and passionate (like in Niji or Heaven's Drive) but other times it's soft and lullaby-like (like in his Reontgen series). Hyde's voice can reach pitches and nuances that Gackt's voice just can't. Plus i think Gackt's voice is a little nasaly and doesn't change much from song to song. His 'Diabolos' album got really boring after a while.

As for looks....they're both pretty hot, but again Hyde wins out. Gackt's too plastic for my tastes ^^

Gackt and Hyde are both talented as has been said a hundred times already. It all seems to come down to personal preference or to what we've seen of them in the public arean that either sets us with or against them.
How can you truly compair to vocalists/artists that sing in different veins. Gackt is known and loved for his deep melodious smooth voice and Hyde for his changing from a low to higher pitch in a breath.
I'm personally a fan of them both and admit I knew about Gackt first but I would have to say I've moved over to more Hyde. I voted Hyde.
Its an interesting topic to debate, one that will never be resolved one way or the other. Not that it should be. But I don't think compairing them does them justice and there are good points from both sides.
I personally couldn't give two sh*ts if Gackts has or has not had plastic surgery done. But I do know he always wears some form of makeup which in some areas enhances his beauty but hides the 'naturalness' of himself. Which I find give him the plastic quality everyone has been talking about. Though I'm not saying Hyde has never or never wears make-up as that would be a load...
One point I'm surprised hasn't been picked up though was the photos themselves. People have used photo's of each artist for there argument, its the photos that I think helps sway the viewer the most. Alot of the images used arn't showing Hyde and Gackt to there fullest. Which isn't our fault. I'm a photographer so I'm annal, but if the 'true' person is captured properly you can't compair. Make sense?
I think to truly appreciate them both you would have to see them both in person and hear them perform. But thats just my oppinion.

I think Gackt has a great singing voice. He never sounds as if he is straining at the notes and never tries for ones that are out of his range. I would say he has a nice low tenor to baritone voice. He doesn't sing through his nose, as seems to be popular with some western singers, such as Britney Spears, who sounds as if she is singing with a peg on her nose.
I don't really know about Hyde as I haven't got any of his music yet. Must go hunting on ebay.:danger: Buying from Japan is soooo expensive
 
I love Hyde, he's talented and so damn cute but I pool Gackt because he's so damn sexy huehehehehe... actually I love both of them. ^__^

I actually think it's an improvement for Gackt but that could be just the hyde fan in me talking.
 
I got Hydes' "Faith" album and so I can now compare the two. My impression is that Gackt has a much clearer voice and is easier to listen to. Hyde seems to swallow his words and is not so clear. Hyde also seems to have a more limited vocal range than Gackt. Saying that Hyde is great to be played loud (ears bleeding type of loud ) and is much more ROCK:54: than Gackt.
Out of the two I favour Gackt. I am also waiting for "redemption" to arrive.

No. After just listening to "Faith" you don't really have the right to make a fair judgement yet. How many albums of Gackt have you heard? How many L'Arc or HYDE albums? Just one?

When "Faith" came out, it was a bit of a shock for everyone. It was a huge shot from the gentle and spiritual debut album "Roentgen" and the hard rock of his second "666" album.

Then again, all of HYDE's solo albums and singles are hugely different from the style he uses when he's with L'Arc.

I like Gackt. I've heard all his albums including the recent "Diabolos" and I hyde's definately got the wider vocal range.

All the talk about how hyde's voice has suffered from his smoking isn't really fair either. Gackt also smokes. hyde's nearing his 40s and a male's vocal cords go through their second dramatic change (since puberty) at that time. Smoking may affected his breathing somewhat but mostly I believe it's just a biological change.

That's further reason as to why some people claim that Gackt has had his vocal cords altered recently and that his new style of singing is just a coverup for it.

I dunno. But dont go about judging people just from one album ok? What would you think if I picked up an old Malice Mizer album and said "Oh, so this is what Gackt is like."
 
I would have to disagree, you don't need to own everyone of an artist's albums in order to know how they can sing ,not now thanks to internet radio, i tunes, and sites like youtube. But either way ,I have listened to both singers and I do not hear any evidence that Hyde has a broader vocal range.

Listen to Gackts songs like Ares,Kimi no koto dekiru,U+K, the mandarin version of Gatsu no love song and even just the beggining of Illness Illusion. These songs are all sung within a high range. Next compare them to Mirror and Oasis he sings these both lower than the previously mentioned songs but Vanilla ,Cube ,Fragrance ,Emu for my dears are all sung ,yet even lower than those song.

Then there is Hyde's singing within both his and L'arc en ciel's albums ,he does admitedlly hit some high notes within a song, such as in Jesus Christ ,Seasons Call , and Evergreen. But he never sings the whole song in falsetto or even within a slightly higher range. His voice remains static only momentarily grasping higher and lower notes ,where as Gackt not only hits higher and lower notes but sings sections and entire songs within a multitude of different ranges. When I first started listening to Gackt I could hardly tell it was the same man singing in some of his songs. I have never experienced this phenomenon with Hyde.
 
Range has nothing to with who has the better voice. Frankly, this is a debat that will never end because who one prefers is nothing but personal taste and bias and therefore people will never agree.

But I do believe it is unfair to judge an artist/band based only on one album. If I had done that with Gackt I'd flat out hate him. But I kept giving him chances and eventually I heard "Mars" and was beyond impressed.

Range:
"Faith" is a highly stylized album, Hyde was shooting for a certain vocal and musical style and that style is very different then most of his previous work. I'll admit, his voice can seem lower at times and get that dark, muddy quality. But I think it's unfair to say he mostly uses his mid range and only every once in awhile his high register and high-mid. Listen to "Neo Universe" that is set in high-mid range. A lot of Laruku is high-mid but almost all of "Faith" is low to low-mid and full voice to boot which is way harder then just singing low normally. And Hyde has hit Christina Aguilera's "money note" aka the one she got her record deal for.

Listen to the scale he does at the end, you can't tell me he has no range:
 
I agree that range by itself, does not make someone a great singer. One of my favourite singers is Johnny Mathis who most people would say has a spectacular voice, but he sings mostly within the same range.

I wasn't just judging Hydes voice based solely on his songs from the Faith album alone. My first expierences with listening to Hyde came from his earlier stuff with L' arc en ciel. I heard L' arc en ciel before I heard any songs by Gackt. But Gackt's singing impressed me more than Hydes. And Gackt is one of the few singers who's vocal range I've been impressed by ,the only other I singer I can of think of doing that is David Bowie.
