Hello,

Please, I'm pretty confused about it.

A lot of websites say that I should learn the informal grammar first because I wouldn't sound too mecanical, like a robot.
But, on the other hand I really think I must learn formal first because with the formal I can talk with friends(even if they think I'm a little weird) and relatives;

So, which one do you think I should learn first?

Thank you,
Derick.

Informal, considering it is the dictionary form for all verbs and is much easier to conjugate verbs if you know the informal/dictionary form first and not the formal. You can also learn them along side each other, not much more effort.

If you mean what I think you mean, the polite forms first as it's more respectful speaking. The Japanese are a lot more likely to expect the polite forms from gaijin too, than the impolite. I'm sure it can really throw them if you don't, haha. ^_^

Enjoy your studying whatever you choose!
